🦅I think there were more than 3 hours of open airtime for our eggs today – The weather was nice and that may have played a part. One observer stated the ravens were seen closer than usual to the nest. Bright sun, but possible dark days for Jackie and Shadow.

📌 It is unlikely that the eggs will hatch at this point. We have no way of knowing why. It could be environmental, such as temperatures, humidity percentages, oxygen levels at high altitude, etc. It could be biological with something just being off at the time the eggs were created. It is very unlikely that either Jackie or Shadow are infertile since they have already had 2 sets of chicks together – in 2019 and 2022.
📌 A replacement (second) clutch may be common if the first one was lost very early on (within 1-2 weeks) and uncommon otherwise. It is unlikely there will be another clutch this season. Jackie is still incubating the current clutch.

Big Bear Lake is ~7 miles long, ~1/2 mile wide, and sits at 6750 ft. ASL. The lake forms thin layers of ice, but never freezes completely, making it a favorite for wintering eagles & many birds. The lake is stocked a couple of times a year.

I think it's time for them to go. Wish them well and good fishing.
If she is fertilie, next year January, she will lay eggs. This yr, weather along California coast and inland was the worse in 30 yrs. The winds were unimaginably cold. Even with their 7000 feathers, it did not help. She layed her first egg end of January, and there was no fluff. Same with 2nd n 3rd egg. By then the eggs froze. Heat from the top but freezing from below, with no insulation. Let's hope weather goes better for them, and us.
Such sadness l have for Jackie n Shadow. No little ones and they did their absolute best N more keeping those eggs constantly tended to. They must be sad too. We'll still be hanging around hoping and praying for better luck come next season! Something GREAT to look forward to❤❤🙏🙏🦅🦅
