Defence Minister confirms Australia will not send warship to Red Sea

Defence Minister Richard Marles has revealed Australia will not be sending a warship to the Red Sea following a request from the US.

The United States first requested support in the Red Sea from 38 countries, including Australia, last week following attacks on military and container ships in the region by the Houthis.

β€œNo, we won’t be sending a ship or a plane – that said, we will be almost tripling our contribution to the Combined Maritime Force,” Mr Marles told Sky News Australia.

β€œRight now, we have five personnel who are embedded in the headquarters of the Combined Maritime Force and over the next month, that number will increase to 16.

β€œThat is a significant contribution.”

  4. If it was a request to send a ship to supply aid to gaza these cretins would be spilling all over themselves in a rush to send our whole antique fleet of vessels and likely come home full of palestinians with cap in hand.

That is a quarter of Bowen's entourage at COP28.

Bloody disgrace. Of course our government does not give a hoot if fuel prices skyrocket because nothing can get through the Suez canal. And Wong would not be caught dead appearing to support Israel. Meanwhile, Albo is waiting on poll figures to emerge before he says anythjn definitive.
