As someone who has been playing krieg for over a decade, these are a huge disappointment
I still miss the 3w 5+++ death Rider
Day 11 of asking auspex tactics to play 40k in 40 minutes.
Krieg are the very epitome of the rule of cool. Their effectiveness is almost irrelevant
No Melta Lance is really weird imo.
Their benefit in 9th and before then was that they were lower damage but 3 wounds and a 5+ fnp. When they took that away in 10th I was pretty sad, but after I saw the new models I was hoping the would get at least a little durability back, but I guess not. If not at least a better speed than rough riders considering the GMO horses, or scout, but nah, whoever designed this datasheet is a bit of a dumbass. I have a theory that GW probably never actually calculates expected damage against targets and just balances based on vibes. Because if they actually did that they would be cheaper that rough riders, or have better non combat rules, smh
The best use of them is that they have the option to be modeled without any of the lances (and come with the parts to do so!), which makes them less likely to have parts snap off of them. It is unfortunately how I modeled my Rough Riders (for that specific reason), which means that I will likely have to run them as the weaker infantry so that I don't confuse my opponent.

As long as they can die faster for the Emperor they are happy.
Deathriders are my initial screening. Prior to losing the squadron commander. Infiltrate two 5 man squads and kite the enemy's first wave so then my guardsmen can lay into them. Then they charge the survivors and then tie up the enemy's vehicles if the death riders survived.

Considering the rough riders are a straight upgrade to them, and are themselves so weak that they're extremely situational and not used very often, I'd say yes they are too weak.
Really glad they arent better than the rough riders.
While not necessarily Krieg specific, I wonder what balance change (points or gear adjustment) could be made if the lances were made into one-shot weapons. Something used in a grand charge but then they needed to swap to sabers after (or they use sabers up front as they’re holding the lances for a bigger target). Either way, points balancing and comparison to rough riders is unfortunate. Paying that premium to get reactionary movement is not the best. Unless you really want to lean into it, it does seem better to just run their rough rider cousins instead most of the time. That said, a recon element of cavalry focus sounds kinda fun. Run a semi heavy sentinels and cavalry based army
Feels like the Krieg box is a win with the models, and a lose with the points and rules…

Imperial Guard just got slapped to hell with the Datasheet release today. GW just has no idea what the fuck they're doing with their game.

Yes. The frag lance is garbage. I'm using them as rough riders with melta lance lol. Sadly this means I can't use the Lord Marshall, but S4 ap0 D1 is insanely bad.
It’s weird to see these guys be more expensive for a less versatile melee unit than Rough Riders.
I would have liked to see GW play into their toughness more, like having 3 wounds with a 6+FNP. That or give the hunting lances flat 3 attacks at S5 AP-1 D1 and Lance, then have a special rule that they get +1AP and +1D on their Hunting Lances when they complete a charge move.
Auspex, ive heard noone talk about the loss of "death rider squadron commanders" to legends. their ability that grands [infiltrator] to death riders was some of the biggest value of that unit

Ill be fielding 10/5/5 death riders and 10/10 rough riders. Love them and they will do fine on the table.
I canceled my preorder after I saw they nerfed literally everything in the box before day 1
if death rider have melta tips as they should, they will probably be much better compared to rough riders simply because they can lead by a character
Man they’d be S tier in AoS with that movement trick. Unfortunately screening against melee only sometimes matters in 40K. And all it takes is an army with ANY shooting to just remove them to make way for the charge you’re trying to make.
Super excited for them to be 40 points at the end of 10th so we can get gaurs back in the #1 least affordable army spot!

I'm done with the non-Krieg community reacting to Krieg.
Either the models are too expensive and overpowered at low points, or weak and worthless. Pick your poison, it's a horde army.
It boils down to this: are you an actual Krieg player? This box (and release/launch) a massive W. Box sold out immediately and many re-salers and scalpers are not discounting the box set.
If you don't feel this way, you aren't a Krieg player, plain and simple. Go somewhere else, pick up the individual Engineer box and move on with your life.

GW is worthless and incompetent. How do you screw up this bad? I understood when they were forge world they were intentionally kept bad so they wouldn't compete with the main company's products, but now that they are part of the standard plastic gw line and a debut model for a new codex I expected them to have some balance and quality added to them. I've been a krieg player for years, gw keeps letting me down more and more

I've just ordered 20 Les Grognards cavalry from wargames atlantic…they're cheaper, look fantastic and I can use Atillan/Death Rider rules as I see fit without being tied to either. I see no need to jump on this hype train…

I love that Krieg, who almost didn’t exist 2 years ago because all our shit got legends’d, got a whole box focussing on them, and they still managed to be shit.

yes, yes they are :v yes the new marshall in the box is useless, and yes the engineers look cool, but weapons with no ap and only flamer, so cheap use an discard unit, arty detatchment insta nerfed, no malcadors, no marshalls, no valdor, so THANKS GW 😀 you make your rules like your food, full with nurgle gifts
