Unicorns can totally fight Dementors… right?
That Death is as old as time itself, what if the Dementors are closer to his children?
The dementors snog 💋
Okay I'll admit I've been tuned out for a little while, but that handlebar moustache nearly knocked me off my chair xD
Not many can rock the handlebar, but you pull it off man
Didn't Ignotus great Death as an old friend in the end? I can't imagine that with a dementor. Also it sort of implies that Death is a sentient creature wishing to kill, which doesn't make sense. Not to mention all deaths would have to be horrible events resembling a dementor's kiss. So basically you're saying anyone dieing peacefully in their sleep is actually being actively drained of all hope and joy and the only thing they are left with in their last moment of life is despear and their worst memories. Kindda sick
is the elder wand a horcrux for Antioch?
My opinion on how realistic a bogart mimic is depends on what the person specifically fears. Eg. Ron doesn't like their spindly legs, so the focus would be on their long legs. Ron doesn't fear spiders cos some are venomous, so the mimic isn't venomous. Conversely, Harry is afraid of a dementor in it's entirety, including their ability to make him relieve his worst memory and faint, that's why his mimic was so realistic.
15:19 gee I wonder what that laugh sounds like. missed opportunity for another Heeee-he-he
So… How was it to be Ignotus' wife and son all these years ? The thought of Ignotus' flirting and havins "fun" times while wearing the invisibility cape at all time is hilarious to me. His son saw his father's face for the first time when he was about to never see him again (kinda sad and poetic)
hey brother!
Here’s a question, if the marauders map can uncover someone hidden under deaths own invisibility cloak, does that not make it equally as powerful as the invisibility cloak? Similar to Madi Moody’s magical eye that can see through invisibility cloaks?
Is the marauders map, deathly Hall! That could bring us up to six!
The wand, the stone, the cloak, the eye, the illuminator, and now the map!
Maybe the Dementor trying to kill Harry was just an "evolved" Version..like not full Death , since he doesnt talk or shows any personality but still stronger and bit smarter then the average. And maybe he would have evolved to a Death level Dementor.. also begs the question if there is more then one Death running around IF they can evolve to that. Or Death is something different but Dementors can still evolve somehow by eating enough souls ..which would make sense since they consume the knowledge too
Oh and Death isnt technically killing people… he just collects the souls. i mean he also doesnt really kill the brothers.. he just tricks them into their own demise.. and the third one just welcomes him ( which i guess means he just died of old age )
Death is a Dementor that is also a Horcrux.
It is that Horcrux Soul Fragment that gives Death its personality.
Harry and Nagini have tiny Voldemort soul fragments in them that make up their Horcrux and they still have their personalities altered by them despite such tiny soul fragments. (Their Horcrux Souls are tiny because Voldy had already split his soul in half several other times prior to them)
Dementors can not die, they are eternal – there is no better vessel for a Horcrux.
So did y’all give up on what if Ron was in Hufflepuff?
It's canon that Dementors were " born " on the island that became Azkaban.
You covered this story….
Did anyone else notice that he said 7:39 to 7:49 twice?
What if the Dementor was able to remove the horcrux from Harry?
You referred to Harry as Ignotus' ancestor and then his descendent.
Got a little too excited about the theory and got a bit mix up, there, hey, Jay?
sounds like a sound theory, though I see it more as Death being the OG dementor and as the human and other population grew, Death split itself, forever consuming and growing but not being its complete OP self. hence why the robes on the dementor's robes are so tattled, a large one had a portion cut out to make a human size one when the invisibility cloak was gifted, and the rest just ripped as too many too quickly needed a robe. the one that came for harry was just one that had levelled more and probably recognised that Tom Riddle was meant to be dead (kudos if you read that in Izma's voice: "A Llama!?! He's meant to be DEAD!" lol) and technically so is Harry. Since the precise moment that Tom's killing curse aimed at Harry rebounded.
The fact that the Dementor makes the Wizard feel dread, e.g. make the Wizard do something, makes me feel like the Boggart Dementor is basically a Nocebo effect (negative Placebo), e.g. makes the Wizard feel dread out of experience with the real thing and knowing what should happen
I actually thought the direction you were going at the end is that maybe the dementor knew that the extra soul inside Harry was supposed to be dead. Maybe the way a dementor makes the leap to Death is by capturing a soul at the point of death (which normally requires a whole lot of special timing, explaining why there are not many of the deDeathtors). Maybe this one is acting oddly because it can sense its next evolution. Thoughts?
Ben & J, I love yalls theories and the podcast is my Monday morning joy at work. Keep it up guys!
Also, what if the dementors recognized that Harry should've died by the killing curse when he was a baby, and so they're trying to correct that.
Nah
Dumb theory idea: the basilisk wasn’t a snake, it was a legless lizard
I think that a good theory that drives from this one is that the three brothers were actually amazing wizards that researched death and made the hallows from things connected to death, such as the elder wand having thestral hair, the invisibility cloak possibly being made from a dementor cloak who is already invisible to muggles and the resurrection stone could be made like a bezoar but in a unicorns stomach. Thestrals are connected to death because wizards can only see them after having seen someone die, dementors like they say in this theory are very related to death in both appearance and powers and making a cloak out of one could make one escape them and "evade" or escape them and unicorns can keep you alive if one drinks their blood, so a bezoar, an ingredient that is seen as an antidote in general, being made inside a unicorn possibly could make someone "ressurect"
Fun video, but I don't really buy it (save perhaps, unicorns' power over dementors). You would have possibly been able to argue that the figure that the Peverell brothers met was not Death (big D) itself but a cunning ascended Dementor (which you didn't). But the fact that the concept of Death, the Reaper itself, that has guided mortals' souls to the afterlife since forever is in fact some creature that got upgraded? No, no that's not it.
What about before that dementor got a powerup? What did people not die ? Preposterous.
You guys should write a series of books and structure it around theories like this!
Instead of an ancient dementor transcending to "Death" with the amount of souls he's consumed, I like to think Death is to dementors as Dracula is to vampires. He's the first, and therefore is smarter, more powerful, and more complex as a personality. Once he administers his kiss and creates the husks, he has some ritual to turn the husks of humans into his legion of dementors, much like the process to make a horcrux.
