This is the shocking moment when a pickup truck with six people on board reverses off a cliff in Yemen as a shocked watcher shouts “Allah”.
The incident was caught on camera on Mikhlaf Naqdh mountain in the Wusab Al Ali district of the Yemeni governorate of Dhamar.
The person who filmed the video had been trying to capture how difficult it was to drive in the absence of tarmacked roads in the mountainous region.
He had not realised he would actually be filming most of the passengers’ last moments.
Four people are believed to have died after the Toyota pickup crashed onto the ground below.
Two survived but were seriously injured and the vehicle was completely mangled in the fall.
According to locals, roads in the rugged region – located around 2,500 metres above sea level – are old, narrow and neglected.
As such, fatal accidents are reported in the area from time to time.
Yemen is the poorest country in the Middle East and North Africa and one of the poorest countries in the world.
It lacks basic resources, such as water, healthcare and education.
Rural and remote areas make it physically, intellectually, economically and socially isolated from rest of the region, and the country’s ongoing civil war, which started in 2014, has only further added to its woes.
