DaVinci Resolve is Even Cooler Than I Thought

I wanted to show off a quick little multicam tip. And then I got distracted by how much text-based editing in Resolve totally rules.

  1. I used the transcription gap deletion the other day for a TikTok edit but unfortunately I had to go back in and tweak nearly every end of a sentence cause it would cut off the end of my last word. So close to being great. And it would also leave lots of little slivers of clips sometimes.

  2. if you do the automatic cutting of the blank space it will cut too close to the start of new words so then it becomes very hard at least for me to prolong those cut words as you need to select the whole timeline move it then prolong the word then move it back….

  3. Patrick, dear Sir. I've just used the transcribed thing and at the beginning I thumbled my way through the sentences and it seems to have grouped the transcript together.
So say i said, "hi today", "hi today I've", "hi today I've messed up".
The transcript will say, hi today I've messed up, but when I do the delete silence bit and inset, its just left me with "hi today" is this like how it used to group pictures when inserting them into the timeline? TIA 🧡

  4. I find it an excellent to quickly review 8 takes from different camera angles or different set ups in a one hour recording. Just hit “find” and then skip to the next one and I can very quickly play 8 takes simply, without having to search and find where they are. Let’s be honest we don’t always log all of our takes with the exact dialogue said while recording.

  5. It's also awesome if you have multiple speakers…it identifies each different person and you can even put their names into it. You can also create subtitles out of it, which can also be very useful.

I've mainly been using it with multicam clips, and I really love it, there are a bunch of subscription services that do this same thing, but you have to round trip out, so this is just like using gling or descript, but its built in, which I think is awesome.

  6. Thank you. I can see this to be very useful. However, at 6:34 it was not clear for me. Then it became more and more confusing. I hope you will find the time to make this "slow learner" friendly. Maybe braking it down in two or three videos with Examples, you know, like "showing the edit result. Maybe it is too advanced for me, but I really want to understand it . Thank you

  7. I havent been able to test this feature because DR takes so long to make a transcript that it basically freezes.

Granted I upgrade or figure out how to solve this issue, can text based editing provide an experience similar to the "Auto-Pod" plugin for Adobe?

Essentiailly looking to remove Gaps in individual multicam/multi-speaker clips but witout rippling so basically you get a rough cut thats already switching shots when different people speak and then you can go in and make slight adjustments where it missed.

Looking at some parts of this video it doesnt seem like it would work. But theres one part where text is deleted and it doesnt ripple so im hopeful.

Im also not seeing a way to adjust the audio threshold for what DR considers a "Gap." With speakers in the same room this would be kind of crucial to remove gaps for a speaker where there's bleed of the other speaker in those gaps.

I assume this is what auto-pod is doing, but maybe its also using AI to detect mouth movement.
