David Tepper and the Carolina Panthers: The Rhules of Engagement

The Carolina Panthers are a hot mess. Even glancing at them for a few seconds this season can show you that. However, going after a few low blows against an irrelevant and dead franchise is too easy. We have to go deeper (like a few inches deeper): We have to look at new owner David Tepper’s reign.

It hasn’t been good so far, but a lot of new owners take plenty of missteps. This is a crossroads for the organization. Will he right the ship? Or will he double down on his current way of doing things and continue to keep Carolina in the muck.

This is more a video to look back on in a few years to see if things have changed. Let’s hope it does.

  1. Great video. It’s certainly worth highlighting just how shiesty Tepper has been since becoming the owner. You can tell how little he’s had to face consequences based on his reactions from his latest press conference where he had to answer questions about his fuck ups.

  2. It's like SB50 self-destructed both teams that ended up there. Panthers are in complete disarray and the Broncos are barely not a LOLcow because of their defense with horrible choices after horrible choices trying to fill a void that Manning left behind

  3. I honestly, as a Panthers fan, didn't feel like he forced Bridgewater, Darnold or Mayfield's signings… They all looked like Rhule's thing. Yes, he wanted to make a splash at QB, but I don't know if those are his doing, I didn't hear much then that made me think that. What I know is that he really pushed for auctioning for Deshaun Watson, but not those ones. About the Rock Hill fiasco, well, I wanted to hear his side, too. It's not like public offices are the most trustworthy entities of all time. Anyway, yes, Rhule's contract was a massive blunder and he's yet to show that he really understood how the NLF works after 4+ years. It's not that much time, after all

  4. Me as a Falcons fan, I'm glad that the Falcons have Arthur Blank because the Falcons do have a slim chance of winning the division in 2022. Hopefully the 49ers help us out today so my Dirty Birds can win 2 out of 3 games to force a NFC South Championship Game.

  5. We have a great, young team. Lots of really good young pieces on defense – Burns, Horn, Brown, Luvu, Chinn. We’ve drafted really well on that side of the ball.

On offense, our line is in great shape. Anchored by Ikem Ekonwu, a fantastic draft pick. Deserves a nomination for OROY. Corbett, Bozeman, Moton and Christensen have gelled really well. We have great weapons like DJ Moore, Foreman and a really promising one in Terrace Marshall. Our trade package for Cmac will be one of the last great packages for a Running Back ever given the replaceability of the position.

The Rhule hire fucked us, and we’ve struggled massively with coaching and the QB position. But a new coach over the offseason, and drafting a Qb in the top 5, and we are right back in playoff contention. It’s not that bad. Not at all.

  6. Tree, as a Raiders fan, I ask for when you do one of these types of videos for the Raiders to please wait until after the Gruden lawsuit against the NFL. Though if Gruden wins I suppose you might have series worth of material.

  7. The owner needs to do like what Tree talked about in Jed York: Take a step back, let your football guys run the team, and take care of the Rock Hill situation, whether that is making amends, or at least settling disputes. He stands as the representative of pro football in Carolina, and needs to set that example of caring for the players, the employees within the franchise and stadium, and the fans that come to the games, watch the games, or live in the communities that the franchise has an effect on.

  8. He's running it like a for profit business, for sure(aside from all the money thrown at quarterbacks). While every player in the league complains about turf, Tepper rips out the grass in the stadium purely to save money. Great way to lure free agents…..

  9. Wow, I currently go to Carnegie Mellon and he's got this big ass building in his name that looks like it was built for burning cash… how'd I never know he owned the fucking Carolina Panthers? They don't tell you about his ventures here I guess lol.

  10. The NFL and its teams' owners have consistently screwed over tax payers, but tax payers bend over and say, fuck me harder, NFL…! and take my money for your increasingly inferior product!
