David & God: A Love Story | Week 5 | Rev'd Marcia Wilkinson | 2 Samuel 6

In this session, we look at the establishment of the Kingdom of David. This chapter is full of drama as David secures the Ark of the Covenant and brings it to Jerusalem. But he doesn’t just bring it to town, and sit it down somewhere. There is a grand procession with dancing and praise for God. This leads up to Jerusalem being cemented as a place of holiness and power.

As much as we like to think we are separated from this kind of celebration and the kind of kingdom David reigned in. There are actually a lot of similarities for us here in the 21st century. Many would argue there is a direct lineage between what we read in 2 Samuel, and some of our rituals we encourage now. We’re also reminded that even though we have a separation of religion and government, that doesn’t mean we have to disregard our own covenent with God through Jesus.
