  1. Boss films was of course originally Trumbull’s EEG effects group – replaced by Richard Edlund’s company using the same building and facilities in Marina Del Rey. I did not know this when given a tour in 1986, Edlund then showed us the famous cloud water tank and commented it was the same one used on Close Encounters.

  2. Don't know why but since I was really young Alien 3 has been my favourite. Even before I even knew who Fincher was, it just seemed to he the scariest Alien film to me. Ripley literally has no safe space to fall back to. The prisoners might have a few good souls amoung them but they're still convicts who can't be trusted. All adding to the constant suspense.

  3. I know I’m in the tiny minority here, but I rank this one second in the franchise, just ahead of Aliens. I love the prison colony setting, the complex relationships she forms with the prisoners, the scene where she gets the flight log data from Bishop, and the ending. If we pretend Resurrection never happened, I felt like this was an emotional and fitting conclusion to the trilogy. Great series of videos btw!

  4. I know Fincher had a horrible time, and it was a mess of a production, but I truly believe the film gets a bad wrap, and is ACTUALLY an underappreciated classic! I love this film.

  5. I love this film. Much better than just ANOTHER shoot-em-up in space.
It succeeds in it's sense of isolation and claustrophobia… Without a teaspoon of this, it's just not Alien.
Best part: The way the music underlines Ripley's fall into the furnace. .. Absolute perfect. For me, the greatest musical moment in the franchise, second only to the moment after Vickers has torched Holloway in Prometheus… Just a second of beauty, a brief and long overdue ray of light. 🏆
    Both Epic scores, truly

  6. The Alien franchise ended with Aliens. Even with David Fincher getting what he wants, it still doesn't make a difference if Newt and Hicks is still dead. Whatever theme and message Aliens had was undone by this movie. The only way I could watch Alien 3 is through fan edits that retcon the death of both characters and ending like "The Long Nightmare". Some of the Alien 3 fans I talk to either never grew up with the movies or Alien 3 is their first experience with the franchise. Good for you if you like it but the majority are not fans of the third movie. You can even see that through most movie reaction channels. Also those digital effects and composites are rough even for the 90s. The only positive I can give is Fincher's direction and the performance from some of the cast.

  7. I love A3, especially the assembly cut. I'd really like to know what Fincher's version would have looked like… what was his original story for A3? Unfortunately, we'll probably never know or did Fincher ever give any hints about his ideas?

  8. Given how awful the production of this movie was, I find it incredible that the movie is even coherent. I don't think it's as bad as everyone else says (Definitely still bad though).

  9. Underrated. Great ending to the trilogy. Yes, the other movies doesn’t exist. I actually like it better than ”Aliens” which is dated 80’s action, loud and with characters that aren’t believable at all. But of course, ”Alien” stands alone as a work of art, the perfect film.

  10. the rogue colony script was actually relevant for the time even with the collapse of the Soviets

due to the fall of communist block, seperatism and rogue states were rampant in Russia and most of Eastern Europe, leading to brutal conflicts

Alien 3 could have easily capitalise on that

  11. I was on holiday in the US when this came out, and as a Brit, I found it hilarious when the prisoners called the Alien a 'W@nker!" as if they were in a pub on a Friday night! I also did some college work experience at Pinewood Studios, and one day during a break happened upon the 'back door' of an Alien 3 sound stage. Unfortunately, there was no Sigourney in sight… sigh…
