DASHCAM VIDEO | 2 dead, 2 injured after car runs stop light in Elyria

Two people are dead and two more are seriously injured after a two-car crash in Elyria Thursday afternoon, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened at 3:22 p.m. on State Route 57 at Griswold Road, troopers said.

According to the highway patrol, the crash was caused when a driver in a Nissan Altima with two other passengers failed to stop at a red light on State Route 57 and hit a Toyota Corolla that was turning east onto Griswold Road. Troopers say an Elyria police officer was trying to stop the Nissan just before the crash.

The two passengers in the Nissan, 36-year-old Tanner Smith of Cleveland and 36-year-old Meghan Incorvaia of Wakeman, were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was airlifted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Troopers say the occupants of the car were not wearing seatbelts.

The driver of the Toyota was taken by ambulance to an Elyria hospital with “serious” injuries, the highway patrol said.

The highway patrol said troopers are investigating the crash and no charges have been filed at this time.

  1. No one should be driving (especially not Big Trucks) unless they are Military. Mass revocations of drivers Licenses will soon take place with some exception for Scooters and "Bubble Car Made by BMW" type vehicles as well as recycled vehicles made for artistic value….

  2. Police say numerous drugs were discovered inside the Nissan, including crack cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, and fentanyl. The three occupants allegedly had warrants out for their arrests, and officers claimed to have "observed a hand-to-hand transaction" prior to initiating the chase.

  3. I like the fact that the officer was speaking English rather than 10-code, and also they actually decided to use a fire extinguisher and extract people from the wreck rather than waiting around on the fire department.

  4. Do we have anyone wondering why, in an era of cheap drones, police still do these siren-blasting chases? Yes the drug dealers are responsible for it… but so are the police. Seriously. You could have drones, and direct multiple police units to gradually “tighten the net” on suspects who are merely being observed from the sky and therefore not panicking over being chased. Plenty of innocent folks have gotten killed or maimed as a result of police chases they had nothing to do with. It needs to stop. It can stop. Why has it not stopped?

  5. We need to know WHY they were being pursued since this is what caused them to travel at a high rate of speed and crash into the other vehicle. Did they murder someone or just run a stop sign. It matters.

  6. Couldn't even see what happened, only the aftermath.. cops were more concerned about making a bust than the driver of the other car, almost t-boned that Prius, couldn't break the glass in the suspect vehicle – not their best moment lol.. glad I wasn't on the road there during that risky and unnecessary pursuit
