It is 1942 and the German submarine fleet is heavily engaged in the so called “Battle of the Atlantic” to harass and destroy English shipping. With better escorts of the Destroyer Class, however, German U-Boats have begun to take heavy losses. “Das Boot” is the story of one such U-Boat crew, with the film examining how these submariners maintained their professionalism as soldiers, attempted to accomplish impossible missions, while all the time attempting to understand and obey the ideology of the government under which they served.

This bunker scene is phenomenal!
So interesting to get a view into a U-boat bunker, seeing all of them maintaining the boats and making them ready for sail.

Die Szenen mit Klaus Wennemann (LI) und Herbert Grönemeyer (Leutnant Werner) habe ich noch anders in Erinnerung. Zwischen den beiden gab es noch einen Dialog, bzw. Monolog von Wennemann. Wennemann sagte zu Grönemeyer "Gleich kommt seine Rede..", dann kam die Rede von Jürgen Prochnow, von wegen deutscher Helden, und am Ende sagte Wennemann nochmals zu Grönemeyer "tolle Rede!". So war es zumindest in der mehrteiligen Fernseher-Fassung in den 80er-Jahre. Ist im Directors Cut dem Schnittteufel zum Opfer gefallen. Das erkennt man an den jeweiligen Umschnitten auf die zwei. 1:12 und 2:06 ergeben so jetzt eigentlich gar keinen Sinn.

Both the low level officers and the crew respond jawohl !!!!! The captain has most of his old crew and some new. They are ready hoping for luck. It is going to be a better hunt then average.

Back than and even today the movie is breathtaking, I've seen it a dozen times, I have a BD copy!
Timeless classic.
Eine der besten deutschen Produktionen die es gibt, wenn nicht sogar die beste. Die Besetzung spricht für sich, leider sind einige der Schauspieler bereits verstorben. Der Film ist ein wahres Meisterwerk, getoppt wird er mit der 5 Stunden-Serie, welche auf BluRay einen sehr guten Eindruck hinterlässt. In Deutschland kann man die Serie bei Netflix schauen.

"DAS BOOT" unvergesslich
What I liked about this movie was it was completely neutral, it just showed what it would of been like on a German submarine in WW2. I wish all war movies were as neutral as this movie, there's nothing worse than watching a war movie that is basically war propaganda 80 years after the war ended.
