The comment from that other Michael is ridiculous. Is it possible people with bad intentions made real-world racial analogies? Sure. It's also possible you are choosing to interpret someone else's work in the least charitable way possible. Putting words in someone else's mouth is bad taste.
In what way is a half dwarf, half human, sterile, hairless, dedicated hard worker and fighter group as a type bred from two populations of people whose populations are equally represented in slaves and free people… anything like racist stereotypes of mixed heritage people in the real world. Half elves and half Giants also exist in the setting, and the biggest difference between them and the Mul, is that they are not sterile. Like Mules are sterile, unlike some of us with more than one heritage in our family tree. You know what else mules are often credited with, being stubborn, sturdy and resilient, and they rarely if ever occur in the wild, having to be specifically bred by 'their owners'. Seems like somebody whose only tool is a hammer looking hard to find things to hit with it.
