Dangerous Highway Rescue!

This fire truck belongs to the production crew that put on the concerts and entertainment for the @Gambler500, and while driving home from the event, it blew driveline while going down the highway. So I took my rollback up to tow it out of there. I decided that in order to save time on the side of the road, I would just winch it up on the bed and get it off the road, then head to my house to store it for a few days until I can take it back over the mountain to its home.

Be sure to check out our Patreon project where we use whatever it brings in in a month as our budget to help someone the following month! 1. MM77 Approved 👍🏼👍🏼……………………………………………So true about the lights!! Oh, and you know what would have sped you up on the side of the road? Speed binders! ……………………Sorry dude, I HAD to say it! LOL I was going to buy a couple for my gooseneck trailer until I watched your video the other day and realized that you are 100% correct, ratchet the ones I have and go on with my life.

  2. After driving a F550 SuperDuty tow truck to help with my brothers tow company, I recognize the dangers tow drivers face. I always slow down and move over to make sure they have space. The bright strobes and now off-road lights mounted to street trucks are blinding. I appreciate my off-road lights when it's super dark off highway and rarely when on a deserted rural road. I am very aware and cautious to aim my road lights properly and never use my bright lights when anyone could be blinded. Be careful out there and watch for those who help others putting their lives on the line!

  3. You can adjust the flash patterns on your LED lights.

Change them to a slower on / off pattern that's not only easier on the eyes, but also more obvious.

Your current controller / lights may also have a dim function you can use at night to reduce how blinding they are.

You may need to upgrade the lighting controller and wiring for this, but variable intensity settings are also a thing.

A slow pulsing glow or even a simulated old school rotating light effects are possible.

I like LED lights because of the brightness in the daytime and the versatility of them to do extra functions, like a traffic director "arrow", but too many people configure them with super complicated, confusing, flashy patterns that only look cool up close in the daytime.

Keep it simple in its overall function and they will do a much better job overall.

  4. Because of early glaucoma and cataracts, my night vision has been getting progressively worse for several years to the point I haven’t been allowed to drive at night for several years. When I did, though, I hated vehicles with LED lights because they were blinding. Especially driving on the back country roads with no roadside lights where I live. From the comments on this video, things are even worse now which makes me glad I don’t drive at night now. Stay safe and watch out for the morons who don’t pay attention/care about anyone else.

  5. In the vein of "warning vs distraction", I've always been annoyed by the flashing brake lights that newer cars have. If they were to only flash when the brakes haven't been applied in awhile or if the driver brakes extra hard, that would be fine, but they flash every time the brake pedal is even touched. Being behind them in stop-and-go traffic is maddening with that light constantly flashing in your face. Eventually you tune it out, so its intention to be a warning gets ignored.

  6. Agree on the lights facing the recovery vehicle and not into traffic. But where's your safety vest for visibility? I was cringing seeing the customer on the traffic side of your wrecker. At least you had a light colored shirt and the video man was out of harms way.

  7. Yeah, my biggest issue is the brightness and location (height from the ground) of pickup trucks. Even with my mirror on dim, friggen headlights light up the whole inside of my car! Remember, you can’t dim your outside mirror!
Oh, good job Casey. As usual.

  8. I've been screaming about being blinded by the blinking flashy lights for nearly 30 years and vehicle headlights are not much better anymore. it's as if the went "gee lets blind the on coming traffic and see if they can miss hitting us"…
same with bright flashing/changing billboards and signs on roadside. someone is making big $$$$$ so it gets pushed on, vs actually making it better.

  9. I like the wheel anchoring method, however would suggest, either doing both front and rear of same wheel or moving to a chassis anchoring point.
Just in case the wheel moves/slip/park brake failure etc.
If the wheel is pulled in a line meeting its center axis, than it is perfectly ok. But if it is anchored above, than two directions are recommended.
    Very nice thoughtfull work.
    Very smart about the lights.
Love your work and super professional attitude

  10. You are so right about the blinding lights. I don't know how many times I've come upon first responders at an accident scen, parked facing traffic with the their alternating headlights on high beam. You are drivinf into that scene completely blind. The last time I stopped and yelled at the cop directling traffic to turn his f'ing lights off. He was parked beside and ambulance facing oncoming traffic and both had those bloody headlights flashing on high beam. BTW, investing in some reflective clothing will make your night calls a lot less dangerous for you.

  11. A lot of those LED bars like you've got there are programable. You can probably tone that down to just a simple alternating left to right versus the sequential and then all the fancy shit. That thing looks like it's in demo mode like those cheap car stereos used to all have at BestBuy.

  12. The lights that GSP and Sheriff's in Georgia use is so dangerous. They're so bright, you can't see where anyone is near their vehicles or if they're in the road. I've been complaining about the for years.

  13. as a truck driver, i have come across accident scenes where i couldnt see what the hell was going on because of all the lights, only reason i knew something was happening is because from 2KM (2000 meters) away the LED strobe lights looked as if they were 100ft away. Another thing i CANT STAND while driving at night is the bright LED advertisement signs that I am seeing more of, I dont understand why there isnt some sort of light sensor to activate a "night time" mode for the signs, or the emergency lights for that matter.

  14. As a former tow truck driver and former first responder absolutely agree with the blinding issue on scene at night time. One thing I look into Casey it's called guardian angel it's a wearable strobe light and flashlight

  16. Great video, I need one of those bright adjustable work lights on a stick! If stuck on the side of a road, looks more effective than many other things.

  17. How many selfish people. Those new style lights are to help protect first responders. They are not just to annoy people that are special, sensitive eyes, want to see the crash, see blood, see dead people. Cars slow down more because of those obnoxious lights. They save lives. People wake up, changes are not only just to piss you off. Think once in a while. Use your own brain a little bit.
