Daily life bat rescue: Tiddly goes to the vet for xrays

Tiddly was rescued when she was noticed crawling across a harbourside road near a wharf.
I couldn’t find her after the first report, but I had a particularly directionally challenged MOP and one of the location landmarks was also repeated on the adjacent pier a few hundred metres away.
I finally found her when a second MOP called in the rescue, and sent video footage of the bat, the location and the context for the location, and also (very helpfully), sent vid of the direction she was heading.
She’s been in care for 2 weeks now, but because our fave vet wasn’t working locally and was unable do the xray, this had to wait for a couple of weeks till he had returned.
Happily, Tiddly has no fractures in her shoulder girdle or flight infrastructure, so she’s free to continue her rehab towards release in a few weeks.
I don’t xray all the head injuries who come into care, but Tiddly was very spacey when she arrived, and severe head smacks generally have a clavicle fracture (collar bone) from the forces of a head on crash.
I love bringing my batty back from the vet with a good xray result.

  13. Great news concerning Tiddly 😅! I love to look at the Bats X-rays too. Their bone structure is so beautifully designed… their skulls look just as sweet as they do with skin, muscles, and fur plus eyeballs and ears on them.
    I still find it amazing to see how large their hearts are! Such beautiful flying mammals. Thank you Meg for taking so much time and care for the Flying-Fox Bats 🎉~🪴🎵🦇♥️💥🌌🌠🌛❗️

  20. Good to hear that Tiddly will be releasable, and she's got lots of other bats for company while she recovers. IIRC, she was very thin when rescued, but she looks well fed now, or at least has a full GI tract on xray.

    It’s always wonderful to see (and hear) Adrian. I’m so glad he rotates locations so that you get to have him check out the batties. Where did Vicky the Vet Nurse (we love and miss Vicky the Vet Nurse) go? She needs to come back, too. How date they have a life and leave us! ❤🦇❤️
