CRUISE NEWS – CRUISE CANCELLED, HOTEL PRICES SKY ROCKET, PASSENGERS FURIOUS OVER TV SHOW
The Viking Ship Mississippi has had to cancel it’s cruise and the next cruise due to water levels. Festival announcement causes hotel prices to just 6 and 7 times higher. Passengers say their cruise was ruined because of the new TV Reality show the Real Love Boat.

  1. In the world of production, those people should be considered extra's which mean's they get paid. I worked as an extra in Atlanta, I was paid, and then all the work going on. I would be mad. Behind the scenes gets old. I would be asking how much they are paying me for me being an extra and my 7 days of being put off.

  2. The production would be interesting, but the Production company should compensate the paying Guests, and make sure the Guests are advised that their future booking might be affected. Then, they could opt to rebook, or cancel with a full refund.

  3. Seems to me they could have just set aside a short cruise for the TV show with no paying passengers on board. If they need passengers as extras, they could just offer a highly reduced fare to get willing “extras”.

  4. It’s bullshit! I can’t even believe people still watch this it’s a waste of time! Guess I would probably get kicked off because I would not follow special rules just because of this nonsense show! All the people on the show are fake attention seekers!

  5. any comment on the horrendous reviews a lot of ships have been getting on sites like cruisecritic? going on ncl breakaway in november and the most recent reviews are very concerning, and all seem to have common underlying issues…..

  6. If the Vikings were in the Super Bowl, we would consider it but we could stay at my sons for free. We did have tickets to game 7 of the World Series in 1987 when the Twins were in it. However lodging wasn’t a factor and face value in those days was 50.00 a ticket. So I would say nope.

  7. Its not the hotels fault. If people are dumb enough to pay it, its the customers fault. If you were dumb enough to pay me $10.00 dollars for a coke at my store – guess how much im charging you.

  8. Can you image if you snuck away from your wife/husband to have a fling on a cruise and your got filmed and everyone you knew saw it? (Nobody I know, lol), but talk about privacy issues with no prior warning! Uncool thing they did!

  9. I was on the Regal princess this summer in the Mediterranean while they were filming, I hardly noticed them. We had to actually ask where filming was taking place if we wanted to watch. We never saw any actual filming and it wasn't every day

  10. I would be very angry. As a veteran cruiser, I have certain expectations, and I am paying for those expectations to be met. If they want to host a show on a ship, they should post this information on their website so people can avoid those cruises if they desire.

  11. Well if the comments on some of the cruise groups are any indication, this show is not going to last long. I myself got as far as the first guest walking on saying I am here to find a man and I turned it off….so fake.

  12. Last week on Mardi Gras there was a film crew doing commercials. They were annoying. We were playing mini-golf, as requested by our granddaughter celebrating her 16th birthday onboard, when we were swarmed by them. They didn't want us there, or anyone around us, they wanted us gone. Yes, we'd been much happier if they weren't there!!!

  13. I would be TICKED OFF to find they were filming a reality show on my paying cruise! I certainly want to know BEFORE I took the cruise as I would change the date. We have three Princess Cruises planned for next year and I HOPE they are not filming on any of those cruises. I want to know how we can find out in advance. NOT A FAN!

  14. Filming regularly on a ‘live’ cruise ship…

… is a new experience for Princess Cruises and booked guests, for sure!

And especially so for film production staffers and actors.

There will be a period of adjustment as the film company ‘settles in’ to this new venue where the same set of hotel guests are sharing a film location for an entire week…

Some filming might take place while ship is in port and many guests are ashore.

Other scenes may utilize inside venues during times when they are normally closed.

May even schedule scenes within certain public areas late at night where long periods of time or better control of the environment is required.

    Extra! Extra!

Am assuming that guests who agree to be ‘extras’ are compensated in some manner by the film company, a separate entity from Princess Cruises, in much the same way that the Casino operation compensates Princess for complimentary cruise fares, cabin upgrades, specialty dining and similar ‘comps’.

    Now then…

With time and experience film production staff will be better at anticipating how much area needs to be ‘roped off’ to satisfy requirements for a scene.

However, there will always be instances where changes are necessary.

If it is found that guest(s) beyond the ropes might be inconvenienced by preparations for a shoot, then perhaps a cruise ship representative should always be on hand to ‘clear the area’ in a polite way.

He might even be authorized to offer compensation in the form of complimentary stateroom amenities, sanctuary reservations, on board spending credits or similar.

    And, of course…

Barring a decision to accommodate brief non-invasive shoots or unanticipated changes to film schedules, I feel that booked guests should be informed in a timely manner that production filming will be occurring, with descriptions of what might be expected during their cruise.

Post cruise surveys and comments made on social media will reveal what may need to be addressed by the cruise company going forward.

    And, as always…

Comments and discussions appearing on social media will also help cruisers decide whether or not to book a particular cruise.

    Stay Well…

  15. Having lived in LA they do this all the time they do warn ahead with a notification placed on ur building like a week ahead or so but yeah if you try to leave your building during filming they stop you until they get the shot. It's annoying in this situation because they didn't let people know ahead of time and offer them to rebook another ship or day. I would have been real upset.

  16. In a city where there are constant film crews and disruptions because of them, I agree with most here: if a cruise line was going to allow filming, guests should be notified as soon as possible to be allowed to move to another ship. Thankfully, none of my cruises have been impacted by that or vloggers (someone else pointed that out; good observation). A lot of money is spent on cruises and cruise lines need to be transparent about things within their control, like filming. Most people overlook bad weather or mechanical issues that change itineraries, and rightfully so, because these issues are often a surprise for guests and crew alike. For hotels, I would not pay that amount. I am doing a Celebrity cruise in Dec but thankfully it leaves on a Monday because the hotel cost for Sunday night was reasonable. Sunday, I imagine which must be a cruise heavy day, prices for Saturday night are triple and in some cases quadruple the rate.

  17. I would have been livid. The fact that the inconvenience is effecting the paying customers and the fact that the cruise line is making a boatload more money from the production company, the lack of respect towards the paying customers that saved for a long time to have their best vacation experience being shattered, with no advanced notice or concessions.

  18. We were on Anthem of the Seas in 2018 and they were apparently shooting a promo for the ship at embarkation.. so they left Bayonne and went over by the Statue of Liberty for about a half our while helicopters buzzed the ship (I assume taking pictures/video/whatever). It was pretty cool, but I don't think I ever saw promo pictures or videos from it, and I looked. Didn't mess up my vacation at all. I know it's not the same as what you described with intrusiveness, but I just wanted to point out that cruise lines have done things like this from time to time.

  19. I would be very unhappy to have a film crew intrude on my cruise. The cruise line should at least disclose that a TV program will be filming so sailors can decide if that is the cruise they want to take. Note to self, avoid Princess for the foreseeable future.

  20. I was a big fan of NCL until our last trip when they had rented out the H2Oasis adults only area to a large group every afternoon/evening of our trip without any warning. I know it’s a little silly to feel like one area of the ship could make or break your trip, but it’s where I preferred to spend the majority of my time and especially sunset. Passengers should receive advanced warning and the opportunity to reschedule when large parts of the ship will be unavailable to them during the voyage.

  21. I would be upset if I did not know this was going to happen before I booked. They should have told the passengers that parts of the ship would not always be available for them to use before the passengers embarked. The show, if you want to call it that, is just one big commercial anyway.
