  1. I have beef with the TM campaign. I’m in Canada, I can buy Prelude for $18 to $28 CAD. If I need it shipped, shipping at most game stores range from $10 to $18 CAD.

For me to buy just Prelude 2 with the milestones, it would cost me $70 CAD including shipping.

The worst part is they have a blurb there talking about how they’re basically taking a loss on shipping in order to keep it more affordable.

Anyway, I took that money and put it toward maxing out my Barrage back.

  2. Yeah, I reported the Queen Games project to Kickstarter for breaking TOS and not launching anything creative and new, but Kickstarter decided they would rather free money than follow their own rules. Second Queen project I've reported for doing this. 🤷

  3. Zee said he loves the Alhambra Big Box because it has like 72 expansions in one box, and later he also said he doesn't like playing big games with lots of expansions. Let the head scratching begin!

  4. Sure would like to know why my comment was deleted. There was a discussion about containers and losing their lids and I gave a link to a product I've been using for 20 years. I have no financial interest in the company. Someone else mention Rubbermaid and it's still there, so I really don't understand what happened here. Camilla, it's really a great product.

  5. Full disclosure: I don't like Christmas sweaters. I wouldn't back the sweaters project because they are made of acrylic, i.e. plastic. It's just not as warm as wool. I only wear sweaters for warmth, and wool is a miracle fabric, literally. It keeps you warm even when wet. Plus acrylics can be incredibly dangerous around an open flame, for example advent candles. Wool is self extinguishing. It will stop burning as soon as you remove the fire source. I love wool!

  6. Very disappointed in your "discussion" of Dark Domains. You didn't talk about the game at all, just railed on it being a second edition. No mention of there being a conversion pack for first editions owners for just $9 nor anything about the interesting theme nor gameplay. If you don't know and can't be bothered to actually look into a game, then maybe hold the negative comments a bit?

It's worker placement with the goal of amassing evil points by corrupting the land and people. The twist is that you start as a seemingly normal nobleperson going out to build villages and towns across the land. At some point, you take actions to flip normal buildings to their dark side to start earning evil points. You can purchase monsters to live on the dark buildings (one rule change is to make moving these around easier) to protect them from the game's heroic adventuring parties that go out at the end of the round to attack dark buildings based on certain criteria. You can take spell cards from various decks to earn more resources, attack other buildings/players, or do other effects (changing the ways you can take spells is another change). At the end, the most evil points wins.

I owned first edition and love the theme but sold it as worker placement is generally not my favorite mechanism and there were some balance issues with desirability of some of the worker spaces. It seems like that's mostly what's being addressed in the second edition (and a rule change to make dark buildings only flip to light rather than be destroyed to make that aspect less punishing).

I've backed the second edition and expansion as it all looks good and is not an expensive and bloated KS project like so many these days.

Jaime from the Secret Cabal really loves the game. I'm not sure if there's a separate review but he's definitely talked about it on the podcast several times.

  7. I'm with Zee, Queen FINALLY got me with Alhambra Big Box Plus Designer's Whatever, Second Edition, Pinky Swear We're Done With This Game Edition. Seriously though, it's an affordable way to get everything since second-hand sales of the Big Box are trending high.

  8. 17:48 Ugh Zee, how can Terraforming Mars be more exhausting to set up than the Alhambra Big box? Alhambra is a plug and play little module I hear you say, and you can pick any of them. Well TM doesn’t require anything more than that. Pick any map, boom quick; Prelude is a must but honestly Venus, Colonies, and Turmoil are use them if you like them but they only are more cards and a tiny side board. Heck, promo cards and the red dot advanced cards are either always in or not if you play the game. Shuffling is tedious but deal out a stack to everyone playing and boom it’s snappy.
I just think you don’t like the game and therefore won’t consider any work to mix in an expansion aka cards and a tiny board. I do like the game so yeah I do it. I have played vanilla Alhambra once and it was cool, but I’m also someone who plays each game like a video game trying to 100% each aspect of it such as playing at every player count, using each module/expansion and anything else, so the process isn’t a hindrance to me.
