Crazy Wildcard Endings, Sideline Conspiracies & The Waffle House Debate | New Heights | Ep 23

On the twenty-third episode of New Heights, Jason and Travis respond to some of your reactions to our very special Gronk episode and try to figure out who to bring on next, we go through some of the absolutely insane fan art submissions that all involved shaving the big yeti, and we answer the not dumb question, “Could the average person rush for 1 yard in the NFL?”

We also recap all the incredible games from Super Wildcard Weekend including the Jaguars historic comeback over the Chargers, the Ravens fumbling it away at the goal line, Tom Brady possibly playing his last snap in Tampa, and we go deep on why Mike McDaniel’s and the Dolphins play calling went up in smoke.

There’s also some non-playoff NFL news to talk about with Aaron Donald possibly announcing his retirement via his Twitter bio, Kliff Kingsbury booking a one-way ticket to Thailand, and someone at the Athletic finally doing the official math on the QB sneak.

Finally, we wrap with a look ahead to the Divisional round of the playoffs with the Eagles playing the Giants for the third time this season, the Chiefs at home against the Jags, but more importantly, we go way off script with a discussion about Waffle House and where it ranks in the world of breakfast chain restaurants.

Feel like every good sports podcast eventually lands on a Waffle House discussion so we let this one run long for you guys. Make sure you hit us in the comments below with how you think the guys rankings hold up.

  1. QUESTION: Coming out of college and signing the first contract, going from broke college kids to signing a pretty good contract. Was there a player or coach who put you guys into check about how to deal with the money? And not be broke at the end of your career like a lot of different players. I won't say the players.

  2. Waffle House is a breakfast joint. Diners live in NJ and serve pancakes and poached salmon. Both serve a definite purpose. Mom comes in town to visit and we spend a long day at a casino, I take her to a diner. My college buddies come in town and we tie one on… we find a Waffle House. Just sayin. #newheights

  4. Waffle House would fit into the category I’ve heard called “Fast Casual” which is like in between fast food, where it doesn’t have a drive thru, but it’s not really like a “restaurant”. It’s a place that you probably wouldn’t spend a lot of time, they usually do take out as an option but people prob prefer to sit in there instead, places like that. kinda just a category to describe those in between places that you wanna call fast food but that doesn’t quite fit.

  5. IHOP, Denny’s, Waffle House, & Cracker Barrel are all Breakfast Places. Not fast food, not diners, and not restaurants. You serve breakfast all day you’re a breakfast place. Diner’s can serve breakfast all day but they cannot be a chain and they must have a certain aesthetic.

  6. I say an O-lineman next- Taylor Decker out of Detroit. Another Ohio kid, but reps my Lions nowadays. If not Decker, Sewell or Ragnow- one of our Detroit playas regardless. I loved the Gronk episode, but overall I just love how you guys shoot the breeze on any given episode of this podcast! Pulling for a Super Kelce Brother Bowl from the mitten state. Best of luck, boys!

  7. I played Run back in high school and I was pretty good I can run a 4.4 40 but I only weigh 160 lbs but I am very strong for my size I can bench 225 for 17 reps and squat over 500 Bc I power lift so I’d like to think I could get a couple yards off pure speed and my O line 😂 but that’s abt it hopefully I survive the hit

  8. Bw3 because the 3 looks like wings from what I remember. Speaking of wings I’m a tad upset the Red Wings weren’t mentioned in the hockey part. Tougher, better, more star power, and a better logo than the Av’s (in the 90’s) 🤷‍♂️
