  1. My grandfather was an attorney for the FBI for a long time and grew up during WWII. Here's a few quick hits:

-His family home was near a farm that was near our local airport during the war. The airport, near fort knox, was being used to rearm planes. Well, one night he woke up to lights and sirens outside of this one barn that had a good view of the airport. Turns out a german spy was watching planes come in and out and counting them. He was arrested, taken down to fort knox, and shot.

-There's an old family story of when we were in Illinois, and this would be around 1900. great x5 grandpa nick ran a shoe cobbling shop in a small town and lived in a little village up a hill. His wife had this really shrill voice, and every day she would fix lunch and then shout "NICK!" and he would come up the hill for lunch.
The house next door had a pet parrot and one day he heard "NICK!", put down his tools, and went up the hill. When he got in the kitchen he was mad there was no lunch, and his wife was indignant that she didn't call him. He thought for a second, pulled his revolver, and said "I'm going to kill that thing." He did, in fact, kill that thing.

-As an attorney for the FBI my grandfather ran into a couple of big gangsters. One was Luther James, a gangster. One day, while out on probation, the Erlers milk man showed up to his house to see him beating on his girlfriend. The milk man said "Mister, you shouldn't be doing that," and Luther turned around and pulled a .32 revolver (see: probation) and shot his tires out. Wouldn't you know it he went to big boy jail.
fast forward about fifty years and my dad, who works for an insurance company, is viewing a bar that his company was thinking of insuring. who does he run across but Luther James, half blind and sitting in a wheelchair with his back to the door. to quote my dad; "I haven't moved that fast since i was in high school,"

-There's an old family rumor that one of my great great grandmothers was a midwife to Abraham Lincoln.

-my grandfather on my moms side was a world war 2 veteran, and the one story he ever told was he was in a foxhole with his buddy at night. Germans advance their position and he hunkers down as the bullets start flying. His battle buddy gets hit and "Clearly dies", let your imagination fill in what that means. He stood up and fired all eight shots of his Garand, and the germans pulled back. He also got out as a sergeant major, ran a bank for like fifty years, and lived to 95. RIP grandpa, USMC.

  3. Listening to Donut talk about the guys the sent struggling to swim is hilariously accurate. Dad was a navy diver and I used to hear him bitch about it all the time when he was at the CEODD. Used to hear stories all the time about guys that wanted to be divers and had no idea how to swim.

  8. During ww2, my grandfather was in the navy and in the Philippines. While on one island they were told not to take any prisoners, a Japanese captain surrendered to him. He didn't kill him. We still have his sword in our family. After we he left the navy and joined the Air Force in the Korean War. Spent 20 years in that branch.

  9. My Grandfather Crashed a Superfortress with Nuclear Ordinance in it up in Greenland, it was in 1968, there’s a whole Wikipedia page about this fuckup 💀

His name was Staff Sgt. Calvin Snapp, 1968 Thule Air Base Crash, and yes the fucker somehow survived. Was angry that he had to smoke both of his packs of cigarettes to keep warm when he jumped out the plane and landed 😂

  10. So I heard a story from my grandpa that when his dad (my great grandpa) was over seas in world War 2, I believe he was a mechanic or something, but a nazi had came and surrendered to him. Apparently he came alone and just didn't want to fight anymore and they sat him down and gave him a cigarette or a coffee. I don't remember much else of the story or what happened to the guy. Also, my grandpa is a collector of old military stuff, and I believe he has the uniform of a world War 2 French general. I've seen it and he's shown/told me who's it was, but I can't remember the name or how he got it.

  11. I'm in law enforcement. Ine thing I've noticed is that defund the police movement just created a generation of shitty cops. Typically trainees got more veteran FTOs to learn from. But soooo many 10+ year vets said fuck it and left. Now you got super junior cops training new cops. It's been a disaster. Also these Gen Z kids hitting the force now…. they refuse to be taught anything. Then toss in the P.C. hiring practices. They are just hiring to check boxes. A lot of these new female hires…. it's terrifying. It's like watching Snooky with a gun.
