Crawler Canyon Presents: State of the Canyon (01/20/23) it's the Q&A episode!

Managed to get in I think most all of the questions, and honestly, I thought I would ramble even longer. Hope it offers at least some small insight. Gonna clog this description up with affiliate links now, why not.

  1. This was fun. You know who your cadence and humor reminds me of? Mike Rowe from Dirty Jobs. And I agree this channel kind of blurs the line into being a podcast at times, but hey, it works! Keep it up.

  2. Element is at least doing some new things with the SE. Traxxas has been stuck in TRX4 mode since day one. They are all squeezing the pennies out of their platforms…lol.

  3. Great episode! Thanks for answering all our questions. I agree that Fortnine's production level is up there with the best! I used to ride/race motorcycles. Maybe I will again someday.

It's really cool the house stayed in the family. Thanks for digging up the old pictures! That was neat to see.

  5. Great insight into your past and path into RC and overall information.
My very first hobby grade RC I got for Christmas from Santa (who somehow knew my dad wanted one also) and was aTamiya Super Champ. Dad, already doing recon at the local RC track already knew how to build the chassis, use aParma lexan body etc. I think half the parts were never used……sounds like purchases of crawlers today…..

Were you a Mystery Science 3000 fan?

Any updates on that status of the course Lighting and any potential of night runs?

    Appreciate all your efforts!

  6. This was a great video. Fun and informative. Thanks for answering a ton of my questions. Weirdly enough, fejwe rhymes with “hedge tree” or “hedge way” (dealers choice) which is an utter nonsense word and is based on a long ridiculous story.

  7. speaking of winches, all in one setups. Boomracing has Muscle Winch. Body of a servo(same size) but spool is inside it. Just a servo lead going to the reciever, no fuss with any external esc or anything. They also have an direct power version if 32kg isnt enough. And a button for releasing the spool so you can just pull out all cable at once.

I use them in my Sorcca class 1 and 2 rigs. Not scale looking but as they are hidden inside the car, they are strong and fast for on the go winching.
I like them just for the simplicity, plug and go, no playing with speed controllers or gutted servos, extra remotes or scale winches with weak gearboxes.

  8. On the topic of smaller scale rigs, and not being interested in them; The 1/18 capra takes 1/10th scale servos, rod ends, esc, 12mm wheel hexes, "class 0" "class 1" tires, etc. I would love to see one in The Canyon.

On mine, I've stretched the wheelbase an inch, widened the track a few mm, and put 4.1" tires on it (amongst other mods) and it plays very well and intestingly on 1/10th scale obstacles.

  9. I love your content man. Still pretty new to the hobby. Lots to learn. Your recent build of the vanquish phoenix straight axle has inspired me to build that one. It'll be my first kit and second 10th scale crawler. Always looking forward to your next video.

  10. Listened in while I built Phoenix links and getting the mounted up now. I know I've been slow with this build but I don't have a lot of time to spend on it. I'm glad you enjoy making the videos because I enjoy hanging out to watch. Also I love Whiskey Tribe and sister channel Whiskey Vault. I am a nerd about whisk(e)y but enjoy it responsibly. The antics of whiskey tribe is just delightful. I also love Miyazaki movies. I first saw Mononoke in the late 90s and have been hooked ever since. Kiki's is one of my fav's. They do such a wonderful job adapting the stories. The one channel I enjoy that's adjacent to my guitar hobby, but I'll never do myself is twoodfrd. He's a luthier out of Canada and posts a lot of acoustic guitar repairs, usually with some interesting history as he goes. It's just started snowing today, but it doesn't stay long. A good day to spend tinkering a bit at the bench

  11. It was great to learn a few things about You and the Canyon. I'm looking forward to future projects.
Seeing you build stuff is great, You videos are entertaining, informative and great to watch. Just started watching the Crawler Cross: RAID from a year ago, I thought id watched all the vids but obviously not. Some of the rigs are totally different to what they are now, i love it. GOing to catch up with any I havent seen.
I like making things myself so seeing you make stuff is inspiring My plan for 2023 is to build my own chassis, print some anti foams to test, fabricate a car body for the rig I build and now ive seen a few vids, make a winch from an old servo. And get some wheeling in as I dont get much time.
Lewis and Simon (Yogscast) are a legend, love them. Next time your building have diggy diggy hole playing on your speakers lol Thankyou.

  12. Your video format is spot on with AvE, which I think you'd enjoy if you watched him. He's an extremely intelligent Canadian that does everything from tool reviews, wood work, metal work, machining, and has excellent commentary as well.

I'm on my way to CA currently with my Phoenix on board, I'd love to try out the Crawler Canyon gauntlet! Not sure I could fit a very large Semi Truck there though lol.

I enjoy your commentary, I usually leave your video's on while I'm driving just to listen to like a pod cast, I can't see them as I have navigation & DOT logs on my screen, only hear them.

I listened to this video over night last night while driving and just woke up and came back to comment. On building a taller obstacle, have you ever considered using the mortar soaked sheets over a wood built stand, to make anything any size you want? Also, as far as one type of obstacle I'd love to see on the Canyon, is a V-notch climb, like you see in Moab a lot.

Sorry for the long comment, keep up the great work and content, I appreciate what you do and am definitely interested in hearing what you have to say.
