Covid Inquiry Putting Sunak in the Frame | Morning Brew with Phil Moorhouse

The Covid Inquiry has been hearing evidence from the scientific leadership viewpoints, and it’s not good news for Rishi Sunak who insists that there were no objections to his Eat Out to Help Out Scheme. It appears that Sunak did not seek scientific approval, should have known he would not have gotten it, and it’s suggested that he was comfortable with the resultant deaths.

  1. If Baron Cameron of Chipping Norton is unlikely to become PM again, simply remaining elsewhere in the Cabinet, I guess PM Lebedev is also unlikely. Perhaps a consideration if there's a need of a Minister for Overseas Donations…

  2. A post today reports Cunnings saying Sunak 'Let them die, they've had a good innings,' I believe this report as Cimmings is not going to lie about this as that would destroy his witness credibility & he wishes so much to put in the knife. Many were, are not old. There are one million Long Covid cases. All this broke the NHS leaving many with PTSD & heartbreak & nurses & doctors Killed themselves. There must be laws under which such mass muderers can be charged?

  3. Two JSO protesters were given a three year and two year sentence for climbing up a bridge to peacefully protest, leading to the bridge being closed which caused disruption for 40 hours.

They have been denied the opportunity to appeal to the Supreme Court.

I hope that any legal action against the Tories take this length of sentence into account when considering any sentence they might face for the disruption they have caused.

  4. If we're holding off on police investigations until the inquiry is done, should the "VIP lane" be left out so the police can get straight to it? Incompetence isn't illegal (at least in government) but corruption certainly is
Also we do have an extradition treaty with the USA, though I'm not sure it will count for much

  5. Sorry, Phil. Johnson was my contemporary at Oxford and Classics finals were NOT "just a grade given by your tutor". They were a very demanding set of exams, as are all final exams at Oxford.
Misinformation is not usually your thing but you indulged in it here.

  6. I worked right through the pandemic. I was a key worker – home shopping gorcery deliveries for people who couldn't leave their houses. I and my colleagues were a lifeline to some very lonely, sometimes frightened – sometimes even grieving – people. We all knew how bad it was because we were there on the front lines. So we weren't medical staff; we still did our bit. Partygate made me very angry when the story broke, but Eat Out To Help Out made me feel physically sick because I knew it could only make things worse. We all thought the policy was insane. It nearly killed one of my colleagues after their son went to one of these restaurants, caught the virus and brought it home to his parents. They were both in hospital, on assisted breathing, for two weeks, thanks to Doctor Death the Chancellor.

  9. Lost my wife during the pandemic. Covid was only partially responsible for it. She had cancer also. It's too raw and painful to elaborate on. Needless to say my hatred for this government knows no boundaries.

  10. Does anyone really think that those responsible for this shiteshow will ever be criminally charged. There is far too much Parliamentary privileged for that to happen.

  11. I sorry i hold the general public to account for this, I see on the comment section, government heads need to roll. The finest example of have of this e.g you wake up
In hospital, your informed that you got behind the wheel of your car and hit someone on the way home, but you’ve blacked out and cannot remember a single thing. It won’t matter if the incident will ever come back to you or remains a blank in life.
Point is before you consumed alcohol, you were aware that you could black out, you knew that it was illegal to drive, knowledgeable that alcohol increases risk of injury. The eat out campaign was the same, did anyone force you to go out, we’re you aware their was a higher risk of becoming Ill. So as a collective society we have to take the responsibility of our actions, no spooning this off, you killed your own, for a meal (last suppers all round)

  12. Loathe as I am to defend the odious Johnson but when Vallance presented the "dark red line" evidence, I immediately understood that to mean that Johnson was unclear what that line represented, not which line was red. Maybe I'm wrong.

  13. Of COURSE Johnson, Hancock, Sunak, and Gove were NOT 'following the science.' That's because, as Micael Gove – in his infinite wisdom – has said:

'The country has had ENOUGH of experts.' This means that Gove, Sunak, Hancock and Johnson DESPISE, LOATHE and DETEST experts, ESPECIALLY when said experts give them news which is 'inconvenient.'

  14. Far as Johnson is concerned it's more an attitude issue. He has no empathy for anybody outside of his 'class' of people. Sunak is the same. They are clever people but their intelligence is tainted by their upper class superiority complex. In that sense they are indeed thick.

  15. It has long been my dream that when Starmer comes to power he will use his influence as a former DPP to prosecute people for the mishandling of Covid and Brexit. I realise he will not be able to do so directly, but he surely has the legal knowledge and contacts to make it happen…

  16. 07:58 – I strongly that abuses of power that amount to corruption, insider dealing, advantagement, suppression of evidence, tax evasion, etc. should be exceptionally pursued. Catching criminals is definitely about sending messages to other "corruptos" – and most certainly it should be about recovering "ill gotten gains"!

  17. Re NCA. It's absolutely crucial that pressure is NOT put on the NCA or police to address criminal factors until the tories are out of office. The reason being the Tories can simply veto investigation. This is what they did about Brexit collusion with foreign entities. They thwarted investigations by Police, NCA, Electoral Commission, Mi6 and Parliament. The police have already received complaints of criminal negligence on covid. At the moment they have decided to "neither proceed nor dismiss". That is absolutely the RIGHT thing to do as there is no point in moving forward with an investigation while the culprits have all the power. Hate and Wait!
