If you want a look about how bad things got with humans driving animals to extinction to make clothing, look up how many birds the Hawaiians killed for their royal feather capes after they got introduced to firearms.
That might make an interesting short film, the story of who twigged to the fact that beavers were going extinct, what that would do to the environment, and got the ball rolling on stopping it

When thinking of bad results of evolving the world around us, I'm more likely to think about the Cuyahoga River catching fire.
Since evolution was mentioned, here are a few thoughts…
Actually we still evolve, evolution does not care what we want or do and since morons are the vast majority whilst the smartest and nicest people are the ones who have less and less kids, you can guess how we'll evolve.
Our evolution – thanks to the invention of society and technology – is mostly done backwards for the majority, becoming better at shutting up, not thinking, just slaving away at their jobs. Meanwhile the elite is evolving into becoming better and better psychopathic and opportunistic manipulators. Hey, at least we still do evolve!
My only solace is that I won't live to see what we'll be like a few thousand generations later. Basically think of a bunch of hyperintelligent psychopathic monsters leading a horde of unquestioning, unthinking morons. In 40k terms, a swarm of Orks led by a bunch of Krorks. I pity any civilization that may be near us in the Milky Way.
I feel I now have to ask…

Imagine having your kids doing an essay on this Band of Beavers thing and the teachers saying that it did not happen. Once they are able to prove it they all should get the A+ grade for it.
