Concerns raised over AUKUS delays

United States Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin has fronted a congressional hearing where he was grilled over the delivery of Virginia class submarines under the AUKUS submarine deal.

The Pentagon’s current budget year forecast has cut submarine production from two to one ship per year.

This will likely delay the delivery of the three Virginia class submarines Australia is set to receive under the AUKUS deal in the 2030s.

Representative Joe Courtney, whose district is home to a large submarine shipyard, has raised these concerns.

He also flagged new protections that allow the President to delay delivery if the submarine transfer would compromise the US fleet.

  1. Curious to see if US voters have recognised that Trump's appointed supreme Court justices are trying to delay their decision on Trump's presidential immunity claim until after the 2024 presidential election….🤔

    Probably not….🤭

  2. The difference between what labor says – and what is actually true – is night and day. Australia has to start from scratch to build nuclear submarines. And this is a long road. Nuclear reactor – is not hard – we have one at Lucas Heights in Sydney – so Australia can build a nuclear reactor.

Lease second hand submarines – again not hard. Sign the contract. You wont build these submarines in Australia. They are built by specialist companies. All Australia will get is the ongoing maintenance – of the submarines. There's nothing hard here – to do. To lease second hand nuclear submarines – is easily done. It is the case – that Australia – is using both the U.S. and U.K. for this program. That makes it complicated. And the way it has been done – to expensive.

However labor – you could not trust with your lunch money. They would steal it from you – and eat your lunch. If anyone believed labor on this project. You would have "fool" stamped all over your forehead.

AUKUS relied on Hillary winning & Russia capitulating..heads up..both failed to materialise for the neocons. Diddums! Win for the world. The Putin Defeats Globalism. 🕊⚖

  4. Had Australia fronted the money to INCREASE a 3rd production line in the US instead of funding South Australian sub debacle #2 – we'd have all America on board plus get the subs sooner.
But. The last thing these leftists are interested in is rallying to the defence of Australia.

  6. Two glaring examples of Australian (RAN) inept and inexperience within contract administration shine through.
    ● whoever wrote the initial Statement of Requirement should be fired.
    ● the lack of experience and knowledge when evaluating tenders was palpable.
    ● The difference when negotiating between the USA and UK is so great that only a fool would have selected the US product.

  7. The rhetoric espoused on the national defence posture indicates that, like South Korea, it is time for a two-year national service component to be initiated. The consensus appears to be the enemy is at the gate..
