Complete PS2 PAL horror collection

Survival horror is a subgenre of horror and action-adventure video games that focuses on survival of the players as the game tries to frighten them with either horror graphics or scary ambience. Although combat can be part of the gameplay, the player is made to feel less in control than in typical action games through limited ammunition or weapons, health, speed and vision, or through various obstructions of the playerโ€™s interaction with the game mechanics. The player is also challenged to find items that unlock the path to new areas and solve puzzles to proceed in the game. Games make use of strong horror themes, like dark mazelike environments and unexpected attacks from enemies.

The term โ€œsurvival horrorโ€ was first used for the original Japanese release of Resident Evil in 1996, which was influenced by earlier games with a horror theme such as 1989โ€™s Sweet Home and 1992โ€™s Alone in the Dark. The name has been used since then for games with similar gameplay, and has been retroactively applied to earlier titles. Starting with the release of Resident Evil 4 in 2005, the genre began to incorporate more features from action games and more traditional first person and third-person shooter games. This has led game journalists to question whether long-standing survival horror franchises and more recent franchises have abandoned the genre and moved into a distinct genre often referred to as โ€œaction horrorโ€

  1. I hate to point this out mate but there are two different versions of DMC 3, the released it and made it a bit easier, not sure if we only got the easy one though. Awesome collection either way mate

  4. Great collection mate, list will help alot of people. Must been hard to say what would go in, I know max payne is not classed as horror, but when I first played it back in the day and you play that nightmare ,that was pretty freaky. I belive there is other onimusha game but know nothing about it. Something warriors. Anyway good stuff mate I'll try chip some of the titles off the list. ๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŽฎ

  7. I didn't realise there were so many horror titles for the PS2, but with it's vast library, no wonder.
I really enjoyed Cold Fear, had a great atmosphere and the waves effects and physics must have been jaw dropping in the day.
I have a good few here but I know there are many tasty/pricey games in this sub-set.
Great watch Marko, hope you're good matey.

  8. Some great games in your horror set there Mark, I dread to think what it has cost you to get this together!
Quite a few in here added to my eBay watch list there hopefully they'll come up at a wallet friendly price one day… one day.
I am guessing Onimusha Blade warriors didn't make the cut as it's more of a fighter than a horror but it is part of the franchise ๐Ÿ™‚
I believe you were going for Onechanbara at the end there ๐Ÿ˜‰ good stuff as always pal
