  1. Top ski resorts period is hard to do. Probably should do a series of "best ski resorts for X type of skier/rider" – like first timers, beginners, intermediates, advanced, and then perhaps all-round (something for everyone).

I generally agree with your evaluation of Keystone – it is an intermediate mountain – period. However, it probably has one of the best first-time/learning areas to get that "Colorado" vibe (River Run) since it is at the top of the mountain instead of at the base. If you have never skied/ride before – Keystone is an excellent place to learn. Plus, for those right off the bunny hill – the Endeavor run is pretty chill (one slightly steep section for novice folks). Scout is the next logical progression. Both are right at the top and are served by a slow but adequate double – Ruby. After that, there really isn't any more progression at Keystone, so you need to head over to Breck to continue. Also, Keystone lessons are slightly cheaper than other Vail resorts and their instructors are just as good.

Now, for "best" learning area I've seen – that would be Beaver Creek – you just don't get that same epic view while learning – but they have all the carpets, plus the ability to progress too.

I'm still not good enough to enjoy Keystone, so I hit Breck as much as I can until Beaver Creek opens – beginner's paradise.

If you are a cheap date and didn't get your Epic/Ikon pass like you should, then head to Loveland Ski Area – specifically Valley for beginners and intermediates. For only $50, it is really hard to beat that. Even their main area (Basin) is cheap compared to other resorts. Also, Loveland Ski Area is good for those that just want an "all in one" type lift ticket/rental/lessons combo.

  2. As much as I love Keystone and it does have amazing trees, no way Keystone can be in the top 5 due to much worse snow totals than basically every other mountain in the state. Even in it's local area it get smoked by Breck, Copper, and especially Winter Park in terms of snow totals and base.

  3. Agreed on Keystone. I love Vail and Telluride but Keystone is my go to. Haven’t been to Breck since 1974, maybe it’s time for a visit. You read that right, 1974!

Special shoutout to Loveland. Doesn’t have the long runs and big resort features but on powder days you can head over to lift 8 and ski untouched powder all day.

  4. All things considered, great list! I pretty much agree all around.

Clearly WP/Mary Jane, steamboat, copper, Highlands, and Vail/Beavercreek are close contenders, but I understand why you went with your top five.

  5. The best for me is the one where traffic isn't a nightmare, I don't have to deal with the tunnel, lift lines NEVER suck, and parking is easy. I'm sure nobody knows where I'm talking about… 😂

  6. Hey, I met you at Keystone in Area 51 back when you had the gimbal setup and around 5k subscribers. It has been so cool to see you progress and "KEEP EVOLVING"! Since I have not been to Snowmass, I would throw Copper in there (I get what you mean about the lame greens and lines), but great list! Love Telluride 🤙and GO PACK!

  7. Keystone is seriously underrated. Personally, I find that Breckenridge has a lot more runs that are just kinda boring, whereas almost all of Keystone's runs are cut really well and I could never be bored on one. But, the skill ceiling at Keystone just doesn't quite get up there. I rank Keystone higher than Breck, but that could change as I continue to progress and get better at skiing.
    I'm surprised A-Basin wasn't on the list.

  8. I still agree with you that Telluride is THE best resort I have ever been to. I went there 26 years ago & it was still privately owned & the town was amazing! Crested Butte (affectionally called Crusty Butt) is narely. Aspen Snowmass is AMAZING. (Out of Colorado, but, have you ridden the terrain in Jackson Hole? Jackson has been voted #1 ski resort for decades. Jackson Hole is a intermediate+ to double expert mountain.)

  9. Hi Johnathan, could you do a video on some more focused hidden gems? A lot of the times people don’t need to do everything in one day. Maybe we just want to hit parks for a day, or just ride trees for a day. A cheap, less busy, and focused resort could be what people are looking for.

  10. 1. Mary Jane WP
    2. A basin
    3. Copper

And these are the only ones I’ve been to enough to have an opinion on 😓 largely based on vibes as well. Can’t stand snobby people on the mountain

Really want to try out keystone and Loveland this season.

  11. Man, the first thing that matter so much more then anything else is simply the terrain. How big is it. How much variety is there. How long are runs, etc. Nothing beats Vail in CO. Other mountains worth noting …. Telluride, Breck.

  12. Some great info here….
I'm planning to hit Lookopass a few times this winter, and also 49° North for the first time… last year was my first time boarding in over 20 years, and boy have prices went up… Schweitzer is way more expensive now, Lookout is not a huge place but the price is low and affordable, and the recent additions made it a pretty rad little mountain to hit with a friend on a Thursday … 49 seems to have pretty reasonable prices as well.
Cheers, and thanks as usual for the videos!
