Elon Musk’s SpaceX has been working towards the goal of colonizing Mars and making humanity a multiplanetary species for two decades. However, recent predictions of a global population decline have raised questions about whether there will be enough people to make this plan a reality.
Despite these challenges, Musk remains determined to colonize Mars, with plans to send humans to the planet as early as 2024 with the Starship rocket.
While a decline in population could have positive environmental impacts, it could also have negative economic consequences for countries with declining populations.
Musk believes that the colonization of Mars is necessary for the survival of the human species and has stated that a self-sustaining base on the planet would be more likely to survive a global conflict than a moon base.
To achieve this goal, SpaceX is developing the BFR rocket to transport humans to Mars, but Musk has acknowledged that establishing a colony on the planet will be a difficult and expensive endeavor.
