This country is not a democracy and never was.
Ironic to see how the elected officers of the past were as willing then as today to sell out "The People" for a dollar of graft.
Some wonderful character actors do a fine job in their parts to tell the story that must be told more often in light of today's woes.
Extremely well done and good movie.
Great movie. Reminded me of a small town where I once lived and the civic pride in grand amount for what little there was.
Two great big screen dogs, seriously? Did you feel that necessary?
They dont try that in a small town!
Oh how I love these old movies , so much better than the bilge of today . Reminds me of my youth and a better world. Thank you , thank you , thank you CH , for the video .
Great old movie, I have always loved Charles Coburn. He was a terrific actor and played some of the best roles.
Good film, although the last fifteen minutes of so seem a bit rushed compared to the pacing of the first hour (with more than a few loose ends left hanging). Part of the issue might be it's a post-war release (1946) focusing on pre-war concerns. Coburn as always is a delight, and Bennett is lovely and sharp as usual. Eythe never did crack into the top star ranks, although he had a steady career in film, tv, and Broadway. He performed in a number of war films in the 1940s but was ineligible for military service due to a punctured eardrum that lead to hearing loss. Sadly, his years of heavy drinking lead to his death at 38 from hepatitis and liver failure.
