  1. Ironic to see how the elected officers of the past were as willing then as today to sell out "The People" for a dollar of graft.

Some wonderful character actors do a fine job in their parts to tell the story that must be told more often in light of today's woes.

  2. Good film, although the last fifteen minutes of so seem a bit rushed compared to the pacing of the first hour (with more than a few loose ends left hanging). Part of the issue might be it's a post-war release (1946) focusing on pre-war concerns. Coburn as always is a delight, and Bennett is lovely and sharp as usual. Eythe never did crack into the top star ranks, although he had a steady career in film, tv, and Broadway. He performed in a number of war films in the 1940s but was ineligible for military service due to a punctured eardrum that lead to hearing loss. Sadly, his years of heavy drinking lead to his death at 38 from hepatitis and liver failure.
