My first impressions of this game were that it reminded me a lot of the first one, which was like a Far Cry 3 clone with less story or a Dead Rising clone with not enough creative weapons AND less story. I wasn't sold on the characters and I thought the combat looked fun but simplistic. That was when I popped in for a stream a few days ago.
Starting from the beginning, my second impressions are quite different. The intro of the game hits super hard. I liked it alot and it sets up or plot pretty well. Cool to see the cameo and the combat looks fun (even if it still leaves some creativeness to be desired). I went from giving this game like a hard 7 to a hard 8. It looks like late 2010s hack and slash fun (which is sort of missing in this generation of "sad story" GOTY bait or looter shooter gear grinds). It's nice and while I can understand the lukewarmness, I think games like Hi Fi Rush and this game remind me why I used to play games: to have fun, first and foremost.
