CIA recruits Russian spies on social media and the darknet | DW News

Apparently the CIA thinks there has never been a better time to recruit spies in Russia. Russian spies. The US intelligence agency is using social media and the darknet to extend an invitation to Russian citizens who may have access to state secrets to get in touch. The invitation comes in the form of a video that speaks to Russian who love their country, but not where it’s going.

Months before Russia began its invasion of Ukraine, the US went public with intelligence that suggested the Kremlin – despite its denials – was planning to start a war. In February 2022, that intelligence proved to be spot on. It is impossible to measure the value of intelligence, but ask any general from Berlin to London to Washington and they will tell you: better to have too much intel than not enough.

Dmitri Alperovitch is a cyber-policy and security expert. He’s been a special advisor to the Pentagon and now advises Homeland Security.

  1. "…Asking them to betray their country…": WRONG!!! asking them to help liberate their country; To wit: Kuklinski did not betray Poland…. nor did Gerry Adams, Michael Collins, et al. betray Ireland. (i.e. Ireland "was always U.K")

  2. Biden is a disgrace to USA 🇺🇸 for refusing to provide F16s to Ukraine 🇺🇦, he is even too scared 😱 to name Russia a STATE SPONSOR OF WORLD TERRORISM. Shameful, but I guess is why USA always looses ever war.

  3. Also a Golden era for Triple Agents. I'm sure agencies have failover mechanisms in place to help ensure fidelity of information.

I think the efforts of sites like Wikileaks are more impactful as are the use of public social media networks like Facebook

  4. So basically manipulate people in to risking their lives. That it's really honorable. Not surprising the CIA has the reputation that it had

  5. My Russia but let me go contact the enemy so they can topple my leaders, create chaos and bomb my people back to the Middle Ages. Even if you don’t like your leaders, never work with the west they don’t care about you. Rather die knowing that both the west and Russia are destroyed then to live in misery while the west laughs and profits from the war

  6. Why is the C.I.A now recruiting Russian spies who might have kremlin secret? The answer is desperation, confusion and Chaos.. After the Loss of Bakmut to the Russia.. there are in panic mode.. they been constantly telling us that western weapons have superiority over Russian old soviet tanks.. but the reality says otherwise…
