I Heard the Bells

A Christmas celebration featuring the Chicago Combined Choir, Logos Christian Academy Elementary Choir and Logos Symphony Orchestra.
And in despair I bowed my head
“There is no peace on earth,” I said,
“For hate is strong and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men!”
If these lyrics do not sound familiar, for sure the sentiments they evoke do resonate with us all. Marked by personal tragedy and at the height of the American Civil War, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow penned these words in his seven-stanza poem “The Christmas Bells.” Seven years later, the poem was set to music, a carol we now know as “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day.”
Given the unrest in the world today, the final verse gives us hope in the Redeemer who left His glory of heaven to dwell among us. Join us in celebrating His birth and may the peace He brings be ours this Christmas.
Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
“God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The Wrong shall fail, the Right prevail,
With peace on earth, good-will to men.”
