The German baritone sings eight folk songs orchestrated by Dmitri Shostakovich with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Thomas Sanderling. The folk songs were arranged during the Second World War in 1943, apparently as a gesture of solidarity with the allied nations.
