I'm not from the US and didn't follow the debate (from what I saw everything in the US is more like a meme or one-sided extreme opinions), but why are people (especially Republicans) joking about that? Balloons are incredibly effective to transport whatever China wants. I listened to a German podcast of a Cold War historian who didn't rule out that China could basically do that again and again until the US doesn't bother anymore, since taking them down is ressource-intensive, so why bother when they don't do any harm until it finally happens. China has EMP technology to shut down entire countries to prepare an invasion, would be kinda bad not to shoot Chinese spy/transport balloons entering US air space down. Apologies for my whacky English, but I don't understand why some Americans are so obsessed with hating the current government that they want an army of Chinese balloons with EMP or warheads flying over their house. Where does this mentality come from?

If the military and its radar are unable to track radar contact over time and produce definite match to a signature — why are those people running radar? Get some people/some techniques that actually produces relevant results. Introduce memoization into the radar return signal processing. Simply track objects over time to determine the nature of that radar return signal. This answer is deeply upsetting and unsettling; these people should have this capability already.

I now realize that what I saw was Chinese Balloons over Barbados or at least up in the sky over the west during a late dusk in September 2017 , from Rendezvous Ridge East where I lived then , a buddy was with me and can confirm this . We watch them for about 20 minutes and they changed positions a couple times .There were at least 3 balloons , looked like big orbs of light because of the reflection from the Sun .
