After the #G20 Foreign Minister’s Meeting in Bali on July 7 and 8, the dust has finally settled and it appears that Southeast Asia is now increasingly becoming the center of attention for Western countries. Are we gearing towards a scramble for Southeast Asia? The Hub with Wang Guan looks at the implications for the region and talks to political analyst Azmi Hassan; to Noto Suoneto, G20 foreign policy analyst and senior manager of The Business 20 Indonesia; and to Zhou Rong, senior researcher at the Chongyang Institute for Financial Study, Renmin University of #China.

Moreover, it is a faulty logic that somehow China is subverting Western industry; globalization was initiated by Western countries resulting in increased global market competition. China has not distorted the rules of this competition; it is simply winning it hands down; having learned how to subordinate capitalism to the periphery of a market economy that is controlled and managed by an axis of 'socialism with Chinese characteristics'. As Deng Xiaoping put it in 1987, "only the socialist system can eradicate poverty".

The U.S created the AUKUS Alliance which in terms not only contains China but also ASEAN's future and future expansion with Australia being the eyes and ears for the members of AUKUS within the regions. i have always believe that "self interest" drives is the main driver of just about every person and country. Put it this way, one would have to be really stupid to allow others' interest to take precedent over your own. However, looking after your own interest is one thing, to OVERWRITE others' interest benefit your own, is not only selfish, but is a sociopath and an egomaniac.
We have many of those in past history. Colonization is a classic example. And we know what countries I am referring to, so no details needed. But time has changed, so have weaker countries. They have learned to stand up for themselves, despite the overwhelming forces that are trying to keep them down. In the bad old days of colonization, the power balance tipped ridiculously in favour of the colonists. They were able to force their interest upon the hapless colonies, rape and pillage, took whatever they could carry off, and destroy what they could take away with them.
Modern days see those colonies become wiser, and are able to see that those once powerful overlords are but a lot of bluff. The British Empire is a classic case in point. Because those once weak countries know that they do have power in their hands, no so much military prowess, but political one. Their power is derived from the fact that those powerful countries now wanted their support in their power tug-of-war between each other. The sole superpower namely America become powerful after WWII. Credit to America for its ability to bring in alliances…strength in numbers. That is why NATO is claiming to be the MOST powerful organization of the world.
But if we are to look closely at the constituent of NATO, it is mostly, if not exclusively, made up of Anglo, Germanic and Celtic. Without sounding racist, WHITE race. Is that a co-incident that colonizers were also WHITE? I know I shouldn't introduce race into this discussion, but it simply couldn't escape the reality as I see it. Before Obama's reign, the Middle East was the playground of America and NATO, and they have F it up comprehensively. They were not successful in terms of building up the region, but were most successful at wrecking it. That is why we have heightened terrorism threats all over the world because terrorists do thrive in chaos.
Not being very successful in the middle East, and essentially the west went away empty handed without the oil they desired. Obama "cleverly" turned America's attention to the Asia. Well, may be he thinks America has better luck this time round, after all those failures in the Middle East. The question is "Can America be more successful in Asia?". I think we need to consider this question very carefully. Why? Because unlike the Middle East where there in no serious competitor there to counter America and NATO, Asia does…China.
What this means is that America is barging into China's playground to see if it could walk away with some prizes. Common sense tells me that China will in no mood to allow America and NATO to walk over it. Inevitably, there will some firework, the political kind and potentially the real exchange of bullets and missiles. And who gets caught in the middle? Of course America and NATO would like to believe that it is their God given rights to rule the world, but I bet China, Russia and Iran disagree strongly.
My advice to Asian countries is simple…Look after your own interest first, second, and third.
