► Sea of Stars Story Synopsis

Sea of Stars is a turn-based RPG inspired by the classics. It tells the story of two Children of the Solstice who will combine the powers of the sun and moon to perform Eclipse Magic, the only force capable of fending off the monstrous creations of the evil alchemist known as The Fleshmancer.

Promising the Sabotage touch in every system, Sea of Stars aims to modernize the classic RPG in terms of turn-based combat, storytelling, exploration and interactions with the environment, while still offering a hearty slice of nostalgia and good old, simple fun.

  1. Regarding the enemy HP – this game is taking a bite out of 'Golden Sun' where you couldn't see them either. If I remember correctly it is to make you focus more on staying alive while continiously dealing damage rather than trying to deal tons of damage while not really caring about a companion death.
It's more about synchronizing your team. At least that's what Josh Strife Hayes told me in a recent video he made about 'Golden Sun'.

  2. Totally wasn't expecting you'd give this a try but it is so far a very engaging take on older rpgs. Combat is enjoyable and has depth while characters are interesting enough. I'm not expecting you to continue this but hope you found enjoyment if you'd like to dabble more in the future.

  3. I'm already 6 hours in and really enjoying it! Didn't expect you to make a first look video on it. Oh and this is kinda random, but I put Revue Starlight on my to-watch list after your FAQ video a while ago and finally watched it and its movie. It's so good! The Futaba-Kaoruko わがままハイウェイ scene alone made it a 10/10 haha. Thanks for mentioning it.

  4. 39:36 “Maybe we’re like disposable magic users” – sounds like you played too much FF16 recently 😂

Also I’m super stoked you decided to check this game out! Even though 2D RPGs as you noticed play a bit differently I’m pretty sure you would love the story (it starts out a bit slow but then picks up), hope for a proper let’s play some day!

  5. So far it looks good, the story is intriguing and the timed parry / attack seems like a cool idea to add to the classic jrpg mechanics.
I'd definitely watch if you play it some more, but also understandable if you don't 🙂

  6. I really enjoy you’re content and I’m happy you checked out this game! Also, as someone who also doesn’t really play JRPG’s I’ve been looking forward to this one, mostly because the combat is really fun, and the soundtrack is pleasant (not too far past where you are, but I will say the story is getting even more interesting too). Hopefully you come back to this game at some point to see it through.

  7. I really like the combat system, but I'd say the lack of hooks is less 2D sprite-based artstyle, and more that this game starts out a bit slow (the 30 minute mark is usually when absolutely mindblowing/shocking plot things happen in most other JRPGs,) because we've seen similar artstyles deliver very emotional payoffs in other games like Undertale and Freebird games, even when they're topdown
