Demolition via SU-152 — typical Russian subtlety. There are stories of using them against German panzers where the sheer mass of the 152mm. round fatally cracked open Panther and Tiger armour — without even exploding.

The Russians never throw anything away. From reusing WWII tanks at Chernobyl to using a 110-year-old salvage ship (Kommuna) to raise stuff from the sunken Moskva. I'm sure some time in the future we'll see them attacking the Ukrainians (or someone else) with T-34's and Cossacks on horseback.

Pretty sure that the cooling is required for the large amount of spent fuel stored there. All the old spent fuel from the shutdowns of the other reactors is stored there. Apparently it can go without cooling for some time now though as it has cooled a lot since storage though it can't do it for a long time but a few days should be ok. At least that is what I had read from a statement that the IAEA made when the Russians held it recently.

There was no problem with the reactor test instruction.
It was a total human error by the guy in charge that was removed from command by a nuclear engineer(He was not an nuclear engineer) and then he picked from his pocket a communist Party card to remove the person that was removing him from there. That's pretty much it.
it was OBVIOUS for ANY nuclear engineer that the test could NOT be conducted after a reactor shut down because of the unknow level of poison inside the fuel. Just common knowledge the guy in command did not had….
they had two weeks of gen power, and the pools were deep enough to go go even longer than that. Quote the atomic energy expert not the msm
Very interesting about it. But may should also take a look at Fukushima, what happens there in the years after the nuclear explosion happens, and how long it takes in point of Chernobyl!!!

I remember going to a local supermarket (Grandways) after the Russians admitted the disaster a few weeks after it had happened.
My father noticed that all the Welsh lamb was missing from the shelves and a note explaining about the radiation cloud was why the meat had been removed.
And people reckon we should use nuclear power to get rid of coal fired power stations ha ha ha fucken no thanks 🙄

The Chernobyl Liquidators Medal is a very clever design, showing the three types of radiation, and how they are deflected in a magnetic field. Alpha particles, with a positive charge, go one way, beta particles, with a negative charge, go the opposite way, and gamma rays, the most penetrating and dangerous type, go straight through.
Glory to the heroes that sacrificed their health and lives to reduce the scale of the disaster. Most of them pobably knew the nature of their work as their witnessed their comrades die from radiation

I love the irony behind russia capturing chernobyl and claiming to have safed if, after they initially fucked it up, where unable to do anything about the resulting issues for a full generation, then waited for the west to pitch in and at least fix parts of the mess they created.
