Ok. I am saying this HERE. Barbrey Dustin…I LITERALLY just figured out WTF her deal is!!!! Manderly asks Davos if he knows about guests gifts…it has ALWAYS bothered me, that lil talk. Manderly is also new to that OLD knowledge/magic. It was Barbrey who efin told Manderly how he can kill the Freys without pissing off the Old Gods. Barbrey isn't helping Manderly…HE is helping HER! Barbrey gave Manderly the means and method as to how get revenge against the Freys without pissing off the Old Gods/Old Magics. Damn this gap has bothered me for years but I KNEW it was RIGHT there in my face! My brain fucking KNEW it. Barbrey VOLUNTEERS Barrowton as a place to kill those Freys and prep as pies. THAT was Barbrey's plan, NOT Manderly's! i knew she gave him permission in advance…but it was actually her idea. HERE"S how it FINALLY efin clicked in my brain! Barbrey gave her husband a horse…the pride of her father's herd, right before he leaves. Barbrey NEVER remarries. Her description is that of a woman who is pretty happy-she has laugh lines, NOT wrinkles. Like Ben Plumm, etc. She is handsome and stands straight-she is not stooped or cowed. She IS confident AF…how she talks to Roose, openly? This woman has NO real fear of men. Not anymore. Not for a long time. Her story to Theon IS bullshit…but there is some truth in it. I just fucking REALIZED what it means…that Ned gave THAT horse back to Barbrey-the one she gave to her husband before he leaves. I JUST realized why she NEVER mentions Benjen as an option for a Stark-husband even while she is telling Theon that her father would have married her to ANY Stark that rode by. Holy Shit….why she is helping Roose, and possibly Mance, makes SO much more sense now. Barbrey doesn't hate the Starks…she might hate a very specific group of Starks, though. Barbrey reads like when she does hate, she hates VERY carefully. I THOUGHT she might be returning Ned's bones, with the other 2-3 things she is doing in the crypts. She might be, she might HAVE to, old God magic stuff blahblahblah. But Barbrey has been working the ENTIRE North since at least the time Robb left. Maybe since Ned left. I am going to read these sections again, right efin now. Barbrey is of the Rills..and now the Barrows. SIDENOTE-That Barrows curse-about how if someone tries to claim Barrowton who doesn't have a right will shrivel up, etc? IF Barbrey gave her husband that horse as a means to cancel his and her fathers marriage deal, kill him and take Barrowton-does that mean Barbrey is going to become one of the…mummy things? SIDENOTE over. So, She Remebers-Manderly was qouting Barbrey when he tells Davos "The North Remembers". THAT is part of what was nagging me-how Manderly sounds like Barbrey BEFORE we hear Barbrey's "The North Remembers" speech at Winterfell. Even Davos gets a bit uncomfy, when Manderly is saying THAT specific part. It STANDS out, to me. To me, Manderly reads like he is qouting Barbrey ahead of time because he IS. Manderly and barbrey had alreay talked before Manderly talks to Davos. DUH!!! I feel stupid for not seeing that, it is SO clear now. Manderly's plan is Barbrey's Plan. I THOUGHT Rickon MIGHT be in Barrowton before now-but now I am SURE. Davos is back. Rickon is IN Barrowton, with a unicorn riding army of wargs from Skagos, likely. The missing Umber Army is likely there as well. It is also VERY possible/likely that Crannogmen are also there. THAT is why Ramsey's wedding was moved to Winterfell like that. Crannogmen forces moving up and into Barrowton might clear up that Mormont confusion/questions. Barbrey KNOWS that The North will die for Starks. Hate them or no-she is NOT going to do something Ramseyish. In fact-one of her MAIN goals is to kill Ramsey. Likely for the same reasons Barbrey includes Lady Hornwood with the Frey crimes-WHATEVER Barbrey has up her sleeve, it involves the ENTIRE North working together. Barbrey is GIVING EVERYONE in the North something they REALLY want-whether it is a Stark return, a son murdered, a family killed off {some eaten}, etc. Barbrey is bringing the entire North together-she is clearing the crypts passages in Winterfell. Maybe manderly is an equal in her plan-but to me, it reads like he is a second in charge, not an equal. This is her plan, Manderly is helping. Roose is helping her, in a very distant, very careful way-THAT is why he tells Ramsey that he should be grateful Barbrey carries a grudge! That was Roose telling Ramsey why he, Roose, is grateful to Barbrey. I knew it-I knew that Roose was saying something else entirely to Ramsey there. And i knew what-I just couldn't figure out the why. Why is Roose being this way, now? Is it important to Barbrey's plan that Ramsey die WHILE he is lord of Winterfell? It sounds CRAZY-but I swear, I think it is. I have a SUPER bad suspicion though, and if it is right, Barbrey needs Ramsey WHILE he is lord of Winterfell. Roose helped her to do THAT by making sure Ramsey was legitimized. Roose helped make sure that Ramsey got Winterfell WHILE he, Roose is The Warden in North from Dreadfort. Roose is warden, not Ramsey. Winterfell SHOULD be Roose's new seat while Ramsey gets Dreadfort. Now I understand the importance of that-I knew it mattered, that Roose does that. Roose keeps almost warning his son Ramsey that he is going to be killed, soon, like he alreadys knows and expects it. Roose is exploitong the kinslayer curse by "trying" to give ramsey advice that SHOULD save Ramsey's life, if only Ramsey takes it. JUST like Domeric. I have always felt that Roose is somehow trying to exploit the kinslaying curse-that is why he talks the way he does to Ramsey. To Theon, etc about certain things. He is practically telling people why they should kill him without telling them to kill him, and why he can't, as well. Roose has already basically said that his wife is going to have sons and that Ramsey will murder them all, etc. Roose WANTS Ramsey gone, but he CANNOT be a part of that kinslaying shit. roose is CLEARLY grateful to Barbrey, at least for now. He will prolly ALWAYS back Barbrey now out of gratitude-ALL signs point to Roose's survival of Winterfell. Roose is going to live a bit longer-and a lot longer than Ramsey is going to. Through Barbrey, Roose now has a way to be rid of Ramsey SOON without breaking old God magic shit. What Roose says to Theon made me sad, about the helplessness of a father when one son kills the other in a world where the Gods hate kinslayers. That was an unexpectedly sad comment from Roose, no matter why he made it. I have always known that Barbrey was helping Roose with the Ramsey issue-but this realization happened in part because of another reread. DID Barbrey have ANYTHING to do with Roose betraying Robb? OR did Roose reach out to Barbrey? Is he tricking her into helping him? She implies that she knows that he is somehow using her for his own ends-and that she IS trying to puzzle it out. HOW much of wtf is going on in the North is Roose/Barbrey behind? Because Roose is using Barbrey as a buffer, for sure. One Example-Barbrey listing off all the Freys crimes and including Ramsey starving Lady Hornwood. Something she included for Manderly and herself-she wants Ramsey dead, but she isn't saying so directly. Barbrey says NOTHING about Bolton/Roose crimes against the North. Only Ramsey.She is reading off a list of charges is how it reads-and it sounds like the trial has already been held, because it HAS. Sorry for my excitement! I seriously could have typed more lol-about Rickon, Mance, Barbrey, Tormund, Jon, The crypts…all of it lol.
Why some stupid fans are still clinging to Jon Snow when he is dead in the books, and his revival in the TV Show was a total disaster, with plot holes and out of character moments, hell, D&D violated their own lore, when Melisandre says that Jon Snow should die after he completed his purpose. But he did? No, give up, the stupid fan theory dead and no one cares anymore, thank god, Jon Snow die like his father, Eddard Stark, thinking that everyone else have the same sense of honour as him.
I think Stannis will defeat the Freys but will be ambushed by the White Walkers leading people to believe him dead giving way to sacrificing Shireen out of a desperate attempt to turn the tide.
So sad that we'll probably never get a finished story from grrm
The thing is George has built up so much pent up plotting and left it all unresolved, that he could actually just sit down and start blasting action scene after action scene for two full books and it would be just enough, if he could focus a bit. It doesn't help that the story ground down to a halt in ADwD, with that weird prolonged mess of the pink letter, mess in the Winterfell, Jons long chapters of managing the bloody logistics of accepting the Wildlings around the Wall, (so interesting) and then the obviously not dead – death, and Stannis just left waiting in the snow… so, a lot of loose ends to resolve, tie up, and clear out just in that part of the story.
Whatever happens with Stannis, it would be nice to see the Queen of the Ironborn. Euron is of course pumped up like this potentially super evil villain but, it may be he just breathed too much of strange fumes in Valyiria, and then kept at it with the shade of the evening. I mean, obviously he cant end up defeating everyone, thats not the story here, so he is going to be dealt with in some way. And the rest, yes, it all has to be resolved as you explained in every section.
The Freys should pray The Great Jon never escapes. The Umber don’t f*ck around. They’re a big reason for the title ‘Savage Northmen’
The blizzard is only surrounding winterfell. In actuality the wall is said to be weeping by the time of Jon’s death so once Massey and retinue pass winterfell then they’re fine, just a little delayed

It's really fascinating how the north is essentially just the wall for the first 2 books. Stannis showing up, the aftermath of the red wedding, Ramsay's marriage. Suddenly it's equally as important as every other region
