Cards Against Humanity sues SpaceX for $15 million

Cards Against Humanity the company behind the deliberately distasteful party game, has filed a $15 million lawsuit against SpaceX, alleging the aerospace behemoth led by Elon Musk trespassed on land it owns in Texas near the border with Mexico.

Cards Against Humanity bought the property in 2017 as a part of a stunt aimed at impeding then-President Donald Trump’s plans to build a wall along the southern border. About 150,000 people donated $15 to its crowdsourcing campaign to purchase the “pristine” vacant land, the lawsuit filed in the Cameron County District Court on Thursday said.

But for at least six months, SpaceX has “treated the Property as its own,” the lawsuit says, accusing SpaceX and/or its contractors of trespassing and, without permission, clearing the land of vegetation, laying down gravel, bringing in generators, and using it to park vehicles and store construction materials. SpaceX did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

  1. I think at some point Elon forgot what a joke was and instead thinks that something serious is a joke, while a joke is something serious. Explains his flippant responses to serious problems.

  2. Basically for anyone who's confused, CAH has pulled multiple political stunts over the years as a kind of "trolls remorse" for being so offensive.

This time they bought a piece of land right up against both the border and a space x compound.

According to the legal side of things, who owns the specific strip of land actually is in dispute, normally this would be a fairly easy day in court where the records are pulled up and surveys are done.

CAH is being openly malicious and doesn't want an easy court day, they want to cause problems so they're filing malicious litigation to try and pull numerous people they don't like into court.

CAH actually likely would have won since it's likely the newer survey they had done was correct, but because of all the frivolous filings they included with it, they may end up paying more then they'll get.

  3. As much as i love SpaceX and hate insane virtue signaling companies taking political stands against common sense…. They're in the right this time. SpaceX should've gone through the proper eminent domain channels.

  4. In a nutshell the motivation behind this lawsuit is to punish Elon Musk for his political beliefs as well as to make an example of him. The message is that if a prominent figure supports Trump, they will find a reason to sue them.

  5. Cards Against Humanity buying land to impede Trump sounds like it goes against the game… their whole schtick is messed up crap; they should be building that wire fence with automated flamethrowers like in Love, Death, and Robots!
