Cancelled – Dubai's Palm Islands

Perhaps one of the most expensive failures of the 2008 economic crisis came from an unlikely place, just hundreds of feet off the coast of Dubai. There, sat several large masses of sand in the unique shape of palm trees and earth’s continents. Several billions of dollars had been spent with enormous promise from the world’s real estate companies. But, everything shut down and the nearly the entire project has been cancelled. 1. Well, I actually quiet enjoyed the never-ending promenade on the edge of the finished Palm. It was absolutely empty and in perfect condition.

Though, I wish this crazy amount of money was put in something useful.

  2. Very interesting video. It's only unfortunate that one of your statements is incorrect. The largest man-made island is the Flevopolder in the Netherlands, which is 24x larger than all the other UAE islands combined

  3. I’ll never forget when the original marketing videos came out for these islands. Totally blown away. Bummer that some of the projects haven’t came to fruition but still incredible

  5. Nice video. But I do feel they neglected to mention how the water around these islands quickly became near stagnant. Which means they aren’t good for suitable for swimming and are breeding ground for insect larvae.

  6. Don’t forget the 100’s of shit trucks that queue up every day to cart away all the sewage from Khalifa because it’s got no sewage system , made in CHINA. Nearly as hopeless as the CCP.

  7. When the Executives of Nakheel were presented with this idea, no one, I mean NO ONE, thought to consider long term consequences?? That right there should have been a strong enough case to oust the Executives from power. All the decades of wealth, drained into projects led by dumb nuts who only see what they want, but not what is going to happen.

We haven't gone in-depth into human rights, but that is a whole separate topic. From a technical standpoint alone, these projects are doomed because of incompetent leaders.
