Canada Post strike on “time out”

The Labour Minister has asked the Industrial Relations Board to end the national postal strike. Steven Mackinnon says he’s not calling for binding arbitration, but says post service will resume, as the strike goes on “time out”.

  1. You’re not heroes. If you hate your job, quit. Canada Post workers whining about “bad conditions” while earning solid pay for a job requiring only a license and a high school diploma is absurd. If I ran Canada Post, I’d replace the lot of you with Uber Eats drivers who’d jump at the chance to do less work for the same pay.

You’ve held vital medications, government documents, Christmas gifts, and people’s livelihoods hostage during your tantrum. Small businesses are collapsing, seniors can’t get their cheques, and kids’ letters to Santa are stuck because of your greed. You didn’t “fight for workers”—you sabotaged Canadians.

You’ve burned bridges with businesses and families who won’t trust you again. You’re not martyrs, just overpaid bullies who’ve wrecked lives and tanked trust in a failing system.

  2. Union whining now because the Federal government is sending them back to work after promising not to? Let's get real. They allowed these negotiations to go on too long and absolutely zero progress is being made. Both sides are being extremely stubborn. Mediation walked away because of the stubbornness. It appears that normally negotiation isn't going to resolve this any time soon if at all. Therefore I'm glad they are trying to put a pause to this. Back to work orders should have been issued at least 1-2 weeks ago!

  3. Don't force them. Just let them continue with their strike. When their strike pay won't cover their expenses and they run out of savings, they will gladly go back to work with no increase.

  4. I'm pretty sure there's a name for persons holding an entire Country hostage while making demands. Would these same people strike for persons with disabilities, homeless, low income families? Not friggin likely

  5. Any union leadership that’s doing its job, will try to do what’s best for its members. Inflation, and lack of security( no contract), are key drivers in the demands; this is what unions do, so this shouldn’t come as a surprise to any one. However, the fact that Canada Post Corporation is continuing to lose revenue and business must be a reality check for its unionized workforce; so in the face of this declining situation, is it prudent to strike during the busiest part of the year. ? The normal union tactic of striking at the busiest time may actually spectacularly backfire in this case, as it seems that customers are finding alternates, don’t seemed panicked, and may choose to permanently change the ways of sending and receiving communications and products. Canada Post could become a much smaller and minor player, relegated to be the service supplier to rural and remote jurisdictions as the CanadaPost federal mandate dictates..

  7. …..CANADA POST UNDER HARPER FROZE WAGES FOR 10 YEARS AND TOOK AWAY HALF THE BENEFITS. THE DRIVERS AT UPS AND FEDEX NOW MAKE MORE MONEY THAN THE DRIVERS AT CANADA POST. AND THE PRICES OF FOOD AND HOUSING HAVE GONE THROUGH THE ROOF. POSTAL WORKERS ARE JUST TRYING TO CATCH UP TO WHAT THEY LOST IN PREVIOUS YEARS. THE MANAGEMENT AT CANADA POST NEVER NEGOTIATE WITH THEIR UNION. THEY RELY ON THE GOVERNMENT TO LEGISLATE THE WORKERS BACK TO LEGALLY STEAL THEIR PAY AND BENEFITS. THE PROBLEM IS WHEN THE GOVERNMENT ORDERS THE UNION BACK TO WORK THESE ISSUES NEVER GET ADDRESSED. ESPECIALLY HEALTH AND SAFETY ISSUES. WAGES AND BENEFITS. THE MANAGEMENT IS TO BLAME FOR $ 3 BILLION LOST IN THE LAST 6 YEARS. CANADA POST WASTES TO0 MUCH TAXPAYER MONEY. THE PUBLIC HAS NO IDEA. THEY ARE PROBABLY THE WORST MANAGED COMPANY IN THE WORLD. THE WORKERS ARE NOT TO BLAME. IN THE 1950'S AND 1960'S THE GOOD PAYING JOBS WITH COMPANY PENSIONS WERE IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR. THE PUBLIC SECTOR WAS ALWAYS LOWLY PAID BACK THEN. A FEW YEARS AGO THEY BOUGHT ALL THESE NEW STEP VANS THAT ARE TOO WIDE AND TOO LONG FOR THE ROADS IN DOWNTOWN TORONTO. I HEARD THEIR NEW ELECTRIC VEHICLES ONLY HOLD LETTERS AND NOT PARCELS. AND THERE ARE LETTER CARRIERS DONE THEIR WALKS IN LESS THAN HALF A DAY WHILE OTHERS ARE OUT THERE INTO THE DARK. OR DRIVERS DRIVING AROUND WITH VERY LITTLE PARCELS FOR 8 HOURS PAY WHILE OTHER DRIVERS THEIR TRUCKS ARE FULLY LOADED. AND THIS IS BAD MANAGEMENT TO ALLOW THIS. THEY HAVE TOO MANY PEOPLE NOT DOING ANY WORK. AND EVERYONE SEES THIS. CANADA POST HAS A MANAGEMENT PROBLEM AND NOT A WORKER PROBLEM. IT'S BEEN THIS WAY FOR YEARS. IT IS SYSTEMICALLY BROKEN. I SEE TRUMP WANTS TO PRIVATIZE THE US POST OFFICE. I COULD SEE THIS HAPPENING TO CANADA POST. IT IS BROKEN…

  8. This is what happens when a DEI hire is leading your organization. Every worker just lost 10% of their salary for not working this long , Canada post lost billions, and Canadians lost patience and trust with Canada Post holding their packages and letters hostage around Christmas.. She should be fired yesterday. But knowing this world she'll likely get a big Christmas bonus on top of her $200,000+ salary for being this bad at her job.

  9. Union workers don't get what they want so they hold Christmas
for hostage and make regular Canadians suffer for it while they
whine that 60-70k per year isn't enough for delivering a few letters
    a week.

Either force these bums back to work or give their jobs to people
living in tents who would be more than happy to make that kind
    of money.
