Canada fights California wildfires despite Trump threats

Canada and Mexico have stepped up to aid in combating the flames threatening Los Angeles.

This co-operation comes against a backdrop of heightened political tensions, particularly with the U.S. president-elect Donald Trump’s approach, which includes discussions of tariffs and potential “takeovers.”

Global’s Nathaniel Dove reports on the significant role Canada is playing in this crisis and the positive diplomatic message it sends amidst the ongoing political strife.

  1. Thank you Canadians, just a shame our government does NOT support Canada!
But remember California need to look at why this happened, extremely poor government, poor management and pathetic piloticians!

  2. If the US government had spent 23 billion dollars on firefighting instead of Netanyahu's wars, today Gaza, Lebanon and beautiful California would be safe. From Iran, I sympathize with those who lost their homes.

  3. As well as Mexico. Mexico is neutral, we would be there for USA and Canada no matter the political issues going on. We are North Americans and we got to help each other out.

  4. to any canadians reading this, a good portion of us americans are not interested in invading you. our military is bound to the constitution and not the commander in grief so they can disobey orders that are completely unreasonable

California used to have a huge lake in the middle, they drained it to build properties and make $$$, the governors n politicians are all in it, what smelt fish??? , that is nonsense, it's all about draining the lake so they can build more properties n sell and make $$$, stop blaming a fish for the fires😂🤣😂

  6. As much as trump runs his mouth about us, We will never stop helping our friends south of us. They are our family and neighbors. We will always have their backs, they would do the same for us.

  8. Canada has always helped the US, but we don't brag about it. From Hydro support when they lose power, to Allies in battle, to fighting the LA fires, we are neighbours and Allies until the end. God be with our Canadian, Mexican, and American Firefighters and Emergency crews.

  9. It would be nice if Canadians understood the reasons for Trump's rhetoric. Read his book, " The Art of the Deal." My understanding based on his past actions, his statement about Canada being the 51st state was a commentary on Trudeau's complete incompetence and a wake-up call to Canadians to take back their country from the far left elitists and bring Canada along in his plan to bring in a golden age for the USA and hopefully Canada. Do I love Trump? No. I am, however, tired of the media always interpreting everything he says in the most negative way possible instead of taking into account who is saying it and considering the macro-context in which it is said. Being a businessman, Trump plays chess when negotiating. His overtures are often provocatively bold. Some would even say brazen. Don't be surprised if he announces some kind of talks in the near future about a reciprocal trade and economic agreement between Canada and the USA. The Canadian leadership knows this. If Canada and the US create an EU type of alliance with a unified currency, Canada would benefit hugely right now. With the combined natural resources of both countries. the economic impact globally could be immensely positive. We could then jointly put pressure on Mexico for major reforms so they could share this economic boom. An invitation could then be extended to Mexico to join the "NAE." .then again, I could be completely wrong and Trump is just trolling. I prefer to look at actions rather than have media-esque knee jerk reactions.

  10. We should assist people who desperately needs help. It is clear that the state of CA needs help. Regarding the new presi….T…., I have no respect towards him. Very irresponsible comments that could lead to unwanted violence.
