Can You Beat Fallout: New Vegas as Legate Lanius?

Fallout: New Vegas is a game full of NPCs with rich history. Some characters appear weak, but are strong. Others appear strong, but are weak. Some characters are full of history sprinkled throughout the game. Others are little more than myth.

Legate Lanius is what is considered the final boss of the game in most of the endings, but very little is known of him. His backstory ranges from the greatest warrior of a tribe from Arizona to a child born into slavery that grew to be legionary at the age of 12.

Regardless of his past, he is a ruthless brute who wishes nothing but to serve the legion. He rips apart his enemies with terror, strength, and endurance at his disposal. That begs the question:

  1. These stories are so convincing well told that I can't tell if they're invented. But in a way, I want to believe they're real, because they fill my heart with youthful imagination.

    Well Done, Owl. Well Done.

  4. Because you made me curious, yes, the average attention span is actually decreasing, and yes, it does at least partially have to do with technology. Social media like Tik Tok, that offers short curated videos that are intended to keep you scrolling for hours will significantly decrease your attention span. In addition to that, we also see increased prevalence of attention disorders like ADHD, with something like a 60% increase in ~20 years, from about 6% of kids in 1997 to 10% in 2016. This is insane to think about, because that means 1 in 10 children have ADHD, which is a staggering figure. This combined with the fact that ADHD correlates highly with depression and substance abuse, since there's significant genetic overlap between depression and ADHD, and ADHD changes the dopaminergic pathways enough that normal rewards are far more rewarding to people with ADHD than neurotypicals, leading to anything from drugs to video games being more pleasurable for someone with ADHD than a neurotypical, and thus, much harder to stop once you've started. This overall speaks of an increased need for clinicians for the current generation, and a great need for society to really look at how we engage with technology and decide if we want to keep going on this path that will continue to degrade our attention spans. There is hope, and there are meditations you can do to help with your attention span, I'd highly recommend meeting with a professional if you have untreated ADHD, I'm working on exactly that while watching this video, things like executive dysfunction and emotional dysregulation that are common with ADHD are entirely treatable and you can see significant progress with therapy and medication, highly recommend seeking treatment if you can tell you have ADHD, because that means you have easily visible symptoms that are already likely interfering with your daily life.

TL;DR: attention spans are decreasing, ADHD is increasing, ADHD is linked with depression and substance use, we need more mental health professionals, society needs to figure out our relationship with technology, and you should seek treatment if you think you have ADHD or any mental health condition really.
