Can We Make MUDFISH Taste Good?? Bowfin Catch and Cook!

We spend the day hunting down mudfish aka bowfish in the swamps of South Carolina in hopes of cooking up this controversial fish right on the boat and seeing how it tastes!

  4. Bowfin is the most common name. Mudfush around here (SC). The best description I have heard of texture is a fried cotton ball. Now pretty much any fish works for a fish cake but honestly for eating the time spent getting that one fish could have filled the livewell with crappie. Mudfish are hella fun to catch though and I'm not above targeting them catch and release.

  5. I fillet and cut all red and yellow out of my bowfin. Don't wash it, just pat it dry with paper towels. Believe it or not if you keep it alive till you ready to cook, and don't add water to wash meat off the texture will improve from the way you experienced it! I like to fry in a cornmeal/ flour breading myself.
