This week we are headed back out to Bluffton Ohio to see if we can get our Piper Saratoga to start for the first time since it had a gear up landing that resulted in a prop strike. It’s going to take a ton of work to get it ready but we’re hoping that after three hard days of work this airplane will be ready to hit the skies!

As a carbusiness owner and a private pilot, I love to watch how you show us all the technical work you do on this aircraft’s. It’s highly educational for me. Keep up the good work.
Get that man a Creeper to lay on! lol… Interesting video as usual, thanks.
Awesome video!
kinda funny, sounds like a turbine starting w/o the plugs in. Neat video!
Nice panel; I have lots of time in PA-32s having restored a T-tail Lance. What's the self-imposed 3-day limit all about? Were you talking to anybody when you crossed over the hold short line at 57:08?
Bravo
A few days ago, I was thinking about how I wish there were more in depth videos on YouTube about working on planes. I stumbled across your channel shortly after that and have been hooked ever since. I wish I became an A&P. I loved this episode and all of the 401 episodes I’ve watched so far. It would be awesome to visit the hangar sometime, I’m not too far from your home airport. I was checked out in CCA’s Archer like…. 8 years ago.
Will you be in Oshkosh this year again
I was told whenever there was a prop strike the crank needs to be inspected?
Wow a great aircraft and a good dead good friends and skilled at aircraft repair men super skills
For crying out loud, get Greg a dolly!
Nice to see that you can work on a airplane with with more people.
Get them back to the 401 there is so much to do maybe 3 months instead of 3days 😂
You should name this airplane the honey bee.
From Lycoming:
"After a prop strike or sudden stoppage, the incident must be entered in the engine logbook. Lycoming must take the position that in the case of sudden engine stoppage, propeller strike or loss of a blade tip, the only safe procedure is to remove and disassemble the engine and completely inspect the reciprocating and rotating parts. This will require a skilled mechanic who knows what to look for in the affected engine.
Any decision to operate an engine which was involved in sudden stoppage, propeller strike or loss of prop blade tip without disassembly and inspection will violate the AD Note issued by the FAA and Lycoming Service Bulletin No. 475C, both of which are mandatory. Any decision to fly an engine without complying with these publications must be the responsibility of the agency returning the aircraft to service."
A prop ground strike doesn't require an engine disassembly and magnaflux of the crank?
Is a full weight and balance required with that prop replacement and damage repair?
Jason…
I’m sure you’ve been asked this countless times before ( so my apologies. )
I’m a huge 401 fan ( but based in the UK ) … is there any chance at all that you would consider sending a jar of paint chippings my way if I were to cover the cost of postage?
If not, and it was only ever meant to be an Osh Kosh thing… Then no worries at all !!
Kind regards – Resh
I fly a PA32R-300 LANCE, I was wondering what the cause of the gear up. Was it a short between the headset, or mechanical?
Why the Land Gear Up?
The newer Firewalls have a panel you can remove to get to the back of the motor.
Jason was there any Hidden Damage after you fixed that Airplane and do you have Notify FAA that you installed new parts I was just Wondering
I noticed some tools in this video that most of the general public may not be aware of and perhaps some would find interesting. The clecos, the cleco pliers. Just a little glimpse of a set of bucking bars, what looks like a 82 degree countersink deburring tool and what looks like a crows foot attached to the torque wrench while attaching the prop. Perhaps your AP guys could do a short video in a "bench" setting. Anyone having to work the business side of the bucking bar process fully understands the pain and difficulty of being "that guy". Just a thought. Peace.
Probably the same amount of time off camera updating the 'plane's paperwork with the prop STC, electronic ingition STC and prop strike repair work….
A great episode with a great team!
I absolutely love watching airplanes being restored to airworthiness! Nice job, guys!!!
Great meeting you guys. Extremely impressive crew. Loved seeing Jolene (J35) for a couple seconds in the background. She’s so photogenic
Well done guys , you've all worked nicely together and done a great job with an entertaining video Alan from Cape Town South Africa
I don't have a bunch of 540 experience, but I do have a ton of 320 experience, we used to intentionally stager the timing a degeree or two because it increased torque according to a Piper Factory Inspection Certification Course (In the late 80s).
Why do you have a go fund me if you’re out buying hundreds of thousands worth of aircraft!?
