Does my heart good to see these old Workhorses Reels given a 2nd Chance .
About a month ago, I said I'd get you a Zebco Cardinal 6 for parts. I've had a couple health scares and dropped everything but I haven't forgotten.
Anyway, I use liquid electrical tape for bang nails that have lost the pad. It provides some cushion.
Wow!! Looks like that Penn 50 International I just took apart that sat in the garage Eves for 20 yrs! Took longer to clean the dried grease with WD40 than to take the reel apart and reassemble.
Hi Dennis,
Have found by using a drop or two of oil in addition to grease on pinion, regular main gears and spool shafts will provide smoother operation on those slower parts !
Best Wishes from the Desert.
Cons and U.
Other problem is that guys
use reels, built for freshwater use in salt water, dont service them after they use them. Fatal flaw for fresh water reels on operators part.
Thanks Dennis. Probably turned a $2 reel into a $15 reel, but I can't stand to see a nonworking reel, and I get a $20 good feeling getting these types of reels back in service. Can't stand those pinion clip reels (like many Shimano FX's), They are never slick and smooth no matter how well serviced, and usually rusted up bad. I've got a Flueger Pelican that I picked up for $3 that is calling to me to fix/service. If you want to get "fancy" a few drops of 2 part epoxy make a decent "less and hard" stop.
I recently opened a reel that made one glove needed to a full hazmat suit needed job
Like seeing old and new reel videos, the 40 dollar brand new baitcaster has 2 ceramic bearings, are ceramic bearings common in new baitcaster reels and do they make reel cast further
Hi Dennis , Another Reel Another Save. I Enjoy the Flea Markets Too. I'm Waiting on the Weather Now Though. Maybe Saturday? We'll See. I At Least Want It In The 30's ! Been Winter Here So Far !
The Olympic Zebra reels are not reels that I like mostly because of the -clip design. I don’t mind bushing reels but I just don’t like the U-clip design. Thanks for sharing this reel! You did a great job bringing it back! — Chris
A slight bit of oil or Penn Reel Grease on the oscillator/main gear as well as on the inside riding surfaces on the side cover can reduce some friction
Always enjoy watching your videos. I just did same thing to an old Daiwa that was dirty and not turning. It will get a second chance!
Love this video Dennis! A great restore! – Tony
Irrigating with acetone spray followed by an irrigation with WD 40 always works
