A vastly improved version of the Tejas called the Mark 1A has just taken its first flight. The first flight took place today from the HAL airport in Bengaluru. It’s a very, very big day for India’s homegrown fighter jet, the Tejas. The entire flight lasted about 18 minutes and now many more flights will take place before 83 of these aircraft, in phases over the next few years, will be delivered to the Indian Air Force. There are orders being processed for 97 more for a total of 180 of these aircraft that will finally be inducted into the Indian Air Force.

The Tejas Range is Still a very very long way to match Mig 29 or any other similar Fighters. Tejas can at most act as a stop gap for about 10 years. Its no match to Chinese 4th gen Aircrafts or even an F-16

OK So it is 4/4.5 Generation Aircraft, but if it used properly and in quantity it will do. Just look at the progress the Indian Navy has made in 20 years, walk, jog, run and then sprint ! Why not join in as full partners with UK, Italy and Japan, no shame in working with friends.
Make it cheap and durable . It will work .
At this relatively small quantity in order, there is no way, the IAF will be able to get to 42 squadrons.
Game changer ?? It will take 10 years to have credible number of Tejas. We need them NOW, fully operational.
