At least 24 people have lost their lives in LA, and the fires have scorched over 40,000 acres of land. Approximately 150,000 people have been forced to evacuate, with many celebrities, including Paris Hilton and Mel Gibson, losing their homes. Despite being the wealthiest country in the world, the United States has struggled to contain the disaster. Currently, there are 14,000 firefighters battling the flames in Southern California, supported by 84 aircraft and 1,354 fire engines. As the fires rage on, a political storm has ignited. Republicans are criticising the Democrats and targeting Gavin Newsom, the Governor of California and a potential future presidential candidate. President-elect Donald Trump, along with his ally Elon Musk, attacked Newsom’s team, saying, “incompetent” officials are managing the disaster response.
