California Fires: Here are the aircraft fighting the wildfires

Hal Kempfer provides all the information on the amazing aircraft that are helping fight wildfires like the Palisades Fire and Eaton Fire in California.

California fires have wreaked havoc on Los Angeles as crews battled several massive blazes, including the Palisades Fire, Eaton Fire, Hurst Fire, Kenneth Fire, Sunset Fire, Lidia Fire and Woodley Fire. Areas impacted included the Pacific Palisades, Altadena, Pasadena, Sylmar, Encino, Brentwood, Santa Monica, Hollywood Hills, West Hills, Acton and parts of Ventura County.

  1. Pretty sure the fire retardant isn’t any better for the environment than the salt water..

The amount of salt delivered from ocean scooping is hardly going to impact the environment.

  2. Need to get credible facts. Aircraft is designed for both fresh and salt water. It doesn't prefer either. You are not understanding how this works. It carries 1600 gallons of water and it takes only 12 to 30 seconds to full up the bay. Your comment about how this plane doesnt carry that much water is completely not understanding how this plane works. If your comment about using chopper and bucket is more effective than why do you need the super scoopers. These planes are used in Canada during the deadliest wildfires every year… I think it does a pretty decent job with a good track record.

  3. I listened to a much better source of information regarding using ocean water to fight fire. This guy isn’t very knowledgeable.

And the equipment doesn’t get messed up. It’s simply requires additional maintenance.

  4. Screw "corrosion"/environmental issues. Extinguish the fire, whatever methods U use. Russia's Beriev BE 200's could have been of great help if the deal wasn't ended by US politicians. Human lives and billions in property losses could've prevented….but "Russia bad", by whatever means.🤷🏽‍♀️

  5. The small water bombers from Canada can drop substantially more water than the dc10 in an 8 hr period mostly because of a 6 minute turn around time , 3 chinooks from British Columbia as well

  6. Fires in pyanees mounts of Spain fires every moment in mts. Set deliberately calling this capitals summer. Starting fires in exclusive community ies in mounts. Southern Spain. Using Mediterranean waters to resolve fires, many many planes . Resolved fires. No one dead, not any beautiful homes damaged.

  7. Bullshit. Ocean water isn't going to do irreversible damage to anything. Ever been to the East Coast after a storm surge? It's the greenest place you've ever been. Pump trucks are properly flushed after every fire as they use ANY source of water regardless of sediment, TDS, alkalinity so just stop the misinformation. Jesus holy gawd.

  8. Just what in the F is the ocean water corroding? Everything is burnt, use the damn water. This guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about. There is more salt in that air than anyone knows. Please put educated people on lol

  9. I see the reporter is repeating the misinformation that salt water can't be used. As far as environmental issues…yes there is some concern with that, but the entire coast is constantly hit by salt spray from the oceans on daily basis, and the vegetation is doing fine. Coastal ecosystems can handle salt water. And as the guy mentioned, the super scoopers are using ocean water, along with helicopters. Also…salt water isn't so corrosive that it destroys the firefighting equipment in the time it would take to put out the fire. Over time (talking months, if not years) you might see some degradation in gaskets and o-rings, etc, but all you have to do is back flush everything with fresh water, after the fire is over, and do some maintenance on the pumps, gaskets and o-rings that can possibly be degraded over time. Slight degradation to some gaskets and requiring a bit more pump maintenance to clean everything is more than worth getting water on the fire. The problem is that there is not enough infrastructure in place, on the planet, to handle fires of this size given the wind and drought conditions, even if they had used pumping stations and fire boats to pump ocean water onto land. What they need is these super scoopers on an alert status, during fire warning times, which btw…was issued in LA county, so they can scramble and quickly get water on those fires, while other resources can get into the game. But even with that…we are talking 30+ minutes before water is getting on the fire from those planes, and in 30 minutes, in those conditions, the fire can spread to hundreds of acres. This was, unfortunately, just the perfect storm of events that led to an unstoppable fire.
