A 34-year-old Calgary man has been charged with manslaughter in connection with a road rage incident that ended with one man dead.
According to police, the passenger in a 2004 Chevrolet Aveo called 911 Tuesday to report a road rage incident that was underway and had continued throughout several roads.
The driver of the second vehicle, a 2002 GMC Sierra, was reportedly swerving in and out of traffic, and had flashed a knife at the two occupants of the Aveo, according to the caller.
Investigators believe the road rage was prompted by a non-injury hit-and-run crash between the two vehicles. Despite a 911 operator advising the Aveo occupants to cease following the Sierra, the pursuit continued.
What followed was a tragic collision where the Aveo reversed into the man, pushing him into a tree and proving fatal.

I'm a trucker here in Vancouver and I have noticed since around 5 years ago that road rage incidents are on the rise. I don't understand why chiefs of police of all agencies in Canada don't start an ad campaign asking Canadians to go back to the old days when we all cared and were civilized for each other! Damn it! We are Canadians! We are kind and care for each other! Why are we not fighting to continue to be known around the world for our politeness and kindness instead!!!!!

In a road rage incident "DO NOT GET OUT!"
The Road Rager was the one crushed and killed.. he kicked the car who then reversed into the attacker.
Bringing a knife? What was he doing?
It should be a murder charges. The guy stopped and formed the intent to commit murder and then acted on that intent.
Road rage is on the rise and I blame city planners. Where I live, they add bike lanes, modify existing lanes, don't properly co-ordinate road work and detours and any contractor can slap up some cones on a road at any time of the day. I have seen contractors close part of a lane down (DURING RUSH HOUR) on a main roadway so their little yard work digger can partially back out onto to road and they spread dirt across a lawn. It snarls traffic like crazy. Those who oversee roads at city hall are either incompetent and/or just do not care. It's almost like they have forgotten that people actually live and work in a city and USE the roads to get around. I honestly think they hate us.
Everyone wants to drive huge SUV's and pickups that impede visibility, aren't very maneuverable, text, threaten the safety of pedestrians, are noisy etc. and road rage is not unusual. We want to be entertained every minute of the day and when some inconvenience interrupts that, watch out.
If he can't even dodge a reverse car he shouldn't pick on fight… Well R.I.P Road rager

This afternoon I was discussing this with a stranger in a bus shelter in Sunnybrook Hospital of all places. The guy in front got out of his car to yell at the guy in the back for driving too close behind him. You do not get out of your car. Regarding Canadian behaviour, this guy had a heavy accent. So there is your answer. You do not bring in large masses of people in a country without cultural training, etiquette, civics etc. England learned that the hard way in the 1960s. An old lady in Jamaica showed me her photo taken with the Queen. She wrote a booklet to inform South Asian and Caribbean immigrants on basic living norms (what is a clothes horse etc.) social etiquette and how to live peacefully within a community. You do not take it for granted that people know how to behave to conform with Canadian norms. This is just common sense. I mentioned this to the City of Toronto staff after they had to come twice for some noise makers (loud music) and they were taken aback. They eventually had to fine the party people before they stopped making noise all hours of the day and night. At least GO Transit once tried with their amusing booklet. But not enough were printed. They need to do that campaign again for all the new GO Train riders who put their feet on seats and smoke weed on their way to games downtown. Miss Marge got an award from the Queen for her work with immigrant communities. I will take cold hard cash to write a Canadian version. Inbox me with an offer.

For the sake of balanced reporting media should stop stigmatising drivers and start reporting cases of sidewalk rage.

I drove an Aveo for 4 years. It genuinely surprises me you can even pin someone with such a small car! I’m happy I’ve never learned that lesson to say the least!
Thats actually not manslaughter its 2rd degree murder.
If the red car was threatened and got around him they were no longer in danger and could have drove off. But since they reserves it is a heat of the moment decision and that IS 2rd degree. Manslaughter is when you didnt really mean to but were basically negligent. This was intentional just not pre planned.
