A nine-year-old girl has died and three other people are in hospital in life-threatening condition following a multi-vehicle crash in Calgary on Thursday morning – a crash which authorities say was caused by a fleeing robbery suspect.
Calgary Police say they were called to a robbery at a Pharmasave along Millrise Boulevard around 9:30 a.m. Officers say they believe a suspect assaulted a pharmacist, then fled in a stolen vehicle.
After locating the vehicle, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but CPS says the driver refused to stop and fled at a high rate of speed. This resulted in police backing off in the interest of public safety. However, the suspect continued speeding for approximately 18 minutes before running a red light at the intersection at Macleod Trail and Southland Drive, causing a devastating collision.

For those wondering… that means that even though they had a helicopter tracking the suspects, the CPS just couldn't help but initiate a high-speed pursuit. Oh the adrenaline! They must have really enjoyed putting those folks in the hospital. Look at the huge crime scene they turned it all into. There will be awards and honor ceremonies and pay raises over this disaster.

High-speed chases should not be allowed!!! With today's technology, apprehending vehicle's can be achieved without the high risk to the public. Chasing the vehicle escalates the situation. You just make an unstable individual into a ballistic missile behind the wheel. My thoughts to the family.
