All instruments in the Western 12 Tone Equal Temperament tradition (12TET) use notes labelled A through G, as well as a number of in between notes. This pattern is most clearly visible on a Piano keyboard, but is hidden on almost all other instruments. To understand them and use them effortlessly, you need to know where they come from.
