This Toy Story Buzz Lightyear action figure was given to me along with a challenge to restore and repair him back to his former glory. I’m not entirely certain of this Buzz’s back story but I believe a pair of brothers decided to customise him a bit with marker pens! Then the older brother set to work with a screwdriver and it was at this point that mum intervened and saved Buzz from a grisly end. Whichever way you look at it, he’s not in a good way and has one arm completely missing and a few other missing/broken parts. Thus Buzz was in need of a full restoration and one or two repairs.
First job was to disassemble Buzz. There were far more pieces than I had anticipated and I gave up keeping track of where everything went pretty early on in the project! I figured I would be able to work it out at the end.
Once stripped down, I set about removing the old paint and clear coat. Several days of rubbing down, polishing, painting and making new stickers and Buzz was ready to be put back together. However, it was actually two months between me taking Buzz apart and getting to the point of reassembling him due to me pausing this project to work on something else. It was definitely a challenge trying to remember how everything fitted together after all that time!
Anyway, I think I managed to give Buzz a second chance at saving the universe – what do you think?

This was supposed to be a quick project but it ended up taking days! I would not recommend repeating it – you can buy a new Buzz for about £30 and I spent more than that on paint and spare parts! 😂
Second comment! Second comment! I did come second!
Sid really went to town on poor Buzz
Distinctly Average Repairs, aka The Toy Rescuer has succeeded again!
The worrying thing is how did the Speak and Spell got back in the house and hide in the cupboard 😂 Brilliant video, I wouldn't have the patience for a complete respray.
Awesome job! It looks amazing!
i can tell you with that many parts
for a mac geyver trick for restorators typical you take pictures of it while disassembly it so its easier to put back together correctly
Very nice,good job👏
